‼️ SGI Europe 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗨 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 ‼️ ▶️ 𝗦𝗚𝗜𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 ◀️ Owned, managed and “made in” Europe, services of general interest (SGIs) provide for the performance of the EU #economy and the well-being of citizens. They reinforce the EU’s #sovereignty and #OpenStrategicAutonomy while supporting the EU’s democracy and values. In the past five years, SGI Europe has been on the frontline through the #COVID19 pandemic, the roll-out of the EU #GreenDeal, the development of an EU social policy respecting the principle of #subsidiarity and the role of social partners, as well as the expansion of the “#foresight capacity” to better anticipate crises. Building upon those achievements, and considering SGIs’ essentiality to our social, environmental and economic well-being, we call on preserving the unique role of SGIs in the EU social and economic model, with a focus on: • Meeting the #investment challenge to support the EU Open Strategic Autonomy • Improving the #SingleMarket and the EU #IndustrialPolicy • Setting up EU #PublicGoods • Creating the conditions for reviving the EU #SocialDialogue • Anticipating SGIs in times of scarcity • Developing #skills to address labour shortages • Ensuring a “human-centric” approach to #AI which leaves no-one behind • Leveling the playing field between public and private undertakings To achieve those priorities, SGI Europe highlights the need for appropriate institutional recognition through: • Appointing a European Commission Vice-President for SGIs and proposing an SGIs Action Plan • Setting up of an #Intergroup of the European Parliament dedicated to SGIs MORE 👉 https://bit.ly/4cGO5AH

SGI Europe welcomes the European Commission Clean Industrial Deal, Action Plan for Affordable Energy & Omnibus Package I and II These proposals are key to accelerating industrial decarbonisation, addressing high energy costs, and reducing administrative burdens for enterprises across Europe 🔹 The Clean Industrial Deal must ensure technology neutrality while incentivising the circular single market and the use of secondary materials 🔹 The Action Plan for Affordable Energy provide proposals for addressing both short- and long-term price challenges 🔹 The Omnibus Package must alleviate the administrative burden for SGIs, while maintaining the EU’s green ambitions and avoiding regulatory fragmentation MORE 👉 https://bit.ly/4khRfP9 #SGIEurope #EUpolicy #CleanIndustrialDeal #AffordableEnergy #OmnibusPackage #CircularEconomy

On Tuesday 25 February, SGI Europe met with European Commission EVP Roxana Minzatu to discuss how the #UnionOfSkills can help tackle labour shortages and strengthen lifelong learning in Europe. We highlighted the need for: 🔹 Stronger investment in basic skills to ensure literacy, numeracy, and digital competences becomes a priority 🔹 Higher VET as a real first-choice pathway, with better recognition across Europe, stronger links to employers, and stable funding 🔹 National Training Funds (NTFs) as key to sustainable, employer-led skills investment, ensuring EU funding complements them effectively SGI Europe remains committed to working with the European Commission and social partners to make the #UnionOfSkills a success for workers and employers.

Presented this Wednesday 29 January, the #CompetitivenessCompass outlines a strategic vision for the EU's economic resilience and growth. Commenting the publication, SGI Europe General Secretary Valeria Ronzitti highlighted: 1️⃣ "The emphasis put in the Compass on #sustainablegrowth and the digital transformation is crucial for the future of #SGIs in Europe. Investments in green technologies and infrastructure will bolster the ability of our members to provide services of general interest efficiently for the benefits of all." 2️⃣ “More clarity is needed on how these initiatives will be shaped and implemented, as they should not compromise the quality and accessibility of SGIs. A truly resilient and competitive European economy cannot be built without acknowledging the essential and proactive role of SGIs in delivering long-term stability, innovation, and social cohesion.” 3️⃣ "SGI Europe remains committed to ensuring that, as the Competitiveness Compass moves from vision to action, the identified loopholes on SGIs are effectively addressed. We will continue working to make sure that our proactive and essential role in shaping the European brand of #competitiveness is fully recognized in the initiatives stemming from the Compass." A big thank you to all the participants who joined us last Friday 17 January, for the workshop on Sustainable Finance and the Need for a Social Taxonomy, organized within the framework of the Finance for the European Pillar of Social Rights (#Finance4EPSR) project! Your contributions made the event a great success as we explored the intersection of #SustainableFinance, discussed the importance of a #SocialTaxonomy, and examined the impact of the self-assessment tool on sector-specific actions. The workshop provided a platform for insightful discussions and collaboration, and we were thrilled to see such active participation. Through sector-specific discussions dedicated to the Housing, Healthcare and Hospitals, and Transport, Water, and Energy sectors, we identified challenges and opportunities, shared valuable insights, and developed actionable steps for driving more inclusive and sustainable investments in these key areas. Thank you again for your engagement, we look forward to continuing the conversation and working together on the next steps in this important journey!
