The #oneAPI Construction Kit has joined the UXL Foundation! This brings the oneAPI Construction Kit under the governance of the Foundation, and will enable much closer collaboration across the software ecosystem we're helping to build. As we've seen at #SC24 this year, there are impressive innovations in hardware development across the industry - driven by #AI and #HPC applications. With the oneAPI Construction Kit, you can bring the existing, open ecosystem of #SYCL and #oneAPI to your new processor architecture and take advantage of existing libraries. It's been a busy start to #SC24 for the Codeplay team, and we've been proud to introduce developers to #SYCL and #oneAPI for #HPC and #AI! Alongside colleagues at Intel Corporation, CERN and Argonne National Laboratory we've helped to get developers hands-on with C++ and SYCL for HPC and AI applications at the SYCL tutorial. We've hosted a breakfast meet-up for the UXL Foundation with partners from across the industry, and we've worked with colleagues at SiPearl to inform attendees of the EU-funded AERO Project which will establish heterogenous, cloud infrastructure for the upcoming EU Processor. With so much innovation in hardware, the case for open, standardised and vendor-neutral software has never been stronger. The AERO Project is funded by the EU and UKRI, and has the single objective of enabling the future heterogeneous EU cloud infrastructure. The NWChemEx project is open-source computational chemistry code, renowned for its high and parallel processing capabilities, and offers extensive functionality for modeling molecular systems. However, the project faces a challenge in maintaining sustainable and portable software with multiple accelerator backends. The project has used CUDA, HIP and #SYCL for NVIDIA, AMD and Intel GPUs respectively - which brings with it challenges around benchmarking consistency, bugs, and more. That's why the Argonne National Laboratory has developed a cross-platform, portable SYCL implementation to support multiple accelerators with single-source code! This year, the #BEDE Supercomputer at Durham University added 3 NVIDIA Grace Hopper nodes, which combines Arm processors with high-performance GPUs. In this recent blog, our team shares our experience compiling #DPC++ for the NVIDIA Grace Hopper platform on BEDE and shows you how to build benchmarks, as well as how to build the #oneMKL library. As new and innovative hardware continues to evolve, the need for standardised and heterogeneous, vendor-neutral code with #oneAPI and #SYCL is clear.
