✅ Managing Legacy Additives in Old PVC Pipes Through Advanced Recycling ♻️ Studies show that rigid #PVC products, like #pipes, can be recycled mechanically 8 to 10 times without losing their technical properties. This is thanks to PVC's stable molecular structure, which remains robust throughout the #recycling process. 🔬 Advanced recycling technologies such as selective dissolution are paving the way for even better solutions. By removing legacy additives and impurities, this process ensures that old PVC products, including pipes, can be effectively recycled in compliance with #REACH. Importantly, these processes keep the polymer chains intact and is therefore mechanical recycling. 🧑🔬 At our recent conference in Prague, Eric Romers, Head of Project Circle at INEOS Inovyn, highlighted progress at two pilot plants using this advanced technology. These plants are successfully extracting legacy stabilisers and other additives while validating lab results—an exciting step forward for #PVCpipes and the #circularconomy. https://lnkd.in/dZpMMQwS

#EU_REACH news! Starting today, #lead will be banned from products made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) if the concentration is 0.1% or higher by weight. This #EU_REACH restriction applies to both newly manufactured and imported PVC items, including recycled materials. Certain applications, such as articles containing recovered flexible PVC have longer transition periods. 👉While the EU industry has already moved away from lead stabilisers in PVC in 2015, this restriction strengthens standards for all PVC products, protecting both human health and the environment. 👉Why does it matter? Lead is a well-known toxic substance that affects the development of the nervous system in children, increases risks of kidney disease and high blood pressure. It is also hazardous to aquatic life. Driving #technological #innovation comes with significant #watercosts. ❗ Producing a single 12-inch wafer requires 15 cubic meters of ultra-pure water (UPW). With 3 million wafers produced monthly, the #EU #semiconductor sector consumes 45 million m³ of water per month—and this is just the beginning.   📈 As #Europe seeks to double its global semiconductor market share by 2030, freshwater use in this sector could rise by 216 million m³ annually, exacerbating #waterscarcity across the EU.   💡 What's the way forward? Europe needs to prioritize investment in water-efficient technologies, particularly advanced #water #recycling systems.
