🚨 Strengthening Children’s Rights in the EU This year marks 35 years since the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child—a cornerstone for protecting and advancing children’s rights worldwide. But in the EU, too many children are still living in poverty, facing social exclusion, or struggling to access basic rights like education and healthcare. As The Left in the European Parliament, we are fighting for real action to: ✅ End child poverty and ensure every child has access to the same opportunities ✅ Guarantee free, quality education and universal healthcare ✅ Protect vulnerable children Children deserve more than promises—they deserve action. 📖 Read our latest article to learn more: https://lnkd.in/eH83SCHf

Standing up for workers, the environment, human rights, gender equality and democracy.
About us
Our group brings together members of the European Parliament standing up for workers, the environment, human rights, gender equality and democracy. In plenary sessions, committee meetings, parliamentary delegations and trilogue negotiations with the other EU institutions, our MEPs are a voice for those who are often excluded from debate in such circles. We are represented in all of the bodies that undertake the detailed work of the European Parliament and our contributions, legislative proposals, reports and amendments always reflect our key values.

On this International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we stand with every woman who has ever suffered in silence. 1 in 3 women in Europe have faced physical or sexual violence. Every week, 50 women are killed by their partners or family members. This is not just a statistic. This is a crisis built on patriarchy, fueled by inequality, and hidden in shame. We demand change—systems that protect, education that empowers, and laws that defend our right to live free from violence. Our bodies, our voices, our rights—they are non-negotiable. We will fight until every woman is safe. Read more: https://lnkd.in/evJCnXMy #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #OnlyYesMeansYes #VAW #violenceagainstwomen

The European Parliament hearings for the incoming European Commission should have been a moment for real accountability. Instead, they became a political theatre with a script already written. ❗ Backroom deals, feeble questions, and shocking compromises with the far right turned this process into a farce. EPP, S&D, and Renew Europe traded democratic principles for political gain, legitimising far-right nominees and abandoning European citizens. This isn’t just embarrassing; it’s dangerous. 📣 What does this mean for the future of EU democracy? How did the Parliament go from a watchdog to a rubber stamp? ➡ Read our op-ed to uncover the full story: https://lnkd.in/dkdDsVX4

The Left sent an open letter to the President of the European Commission calling for the rejection of the EU-Mercosur agreement. The EU-Mercosur deal is a disaster from a social, ecological, sanitary and democratic perspective. It is still time for the EU Commission to acknowledge it and seek other forms of trade cooperation with Mercosur countries. The Left therefore calls on Ursula Von der Leyen to abandon the conclusion of this agreement without further delay. This letter, initiated by Manon Aubry, Member of the European Parliament (La France Insoumise), 1st Vice-President of the committee on international trade and Co-Chair of The Left group in the European Parliament, has received the support from 137 MEPs and MPs across 13 European countries. 🧠 You’ve Got All It Takes – Capitalism Doesn’t 💥 Today, on World Mental Health Day, remember: You are good as you are. The problem isn't you—it’s the broken system around you. In a world where capitalism blames you for the pain it causes, we’re told to focus on self-reform rather than the real problem: the system itself. Feeling overwhelmed by a low-wage job? Change your attitude, not the exploitative conditions. Stressed by the pressures of modern life? Pop a pill and forget the alienation, exploitation, and domination that define our daily existence. But mental health challenges require collective solutions, not individual fixes. We need strong public healthcare systems and policies that prioritize people over profits. Mental health care should be accessible and comprehensive, ensuring that no one is left behind. We call on the Commission to radically ramp up its mental health strategy and prioritize real structural change. We need more than just band-aid solutions. Let’s push for a world where your well-being comes before profits. You are not broken. Capitalism is. ✊ #worldmentalhealthday
