The Left group in the European Parliament welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. After months of tragic loss, with tens of thousands of civilians killed, this news brings relief and a glimmer of hope for a region scarred by violence.   "We will closely monitor the implementation of the agreement and push for it to be made permanent. We will not forget that more than 46,000 Gazans have been killed in the genocide perpetrated by the Israeli army. [...] . The Advocate General of the European Court of Justice issued an opinion advocating for the annulment of the EU Minimum Wage Directive, adopted in 2022. This opinion is a dangerous step towards dismantling key protections for workers across Europe. It aligns with the European Commission’s competitiveness agenda, which cares more about profit over people. If sent to Hungary, antifascist activist Rexhino "Gino" Abazaj could face up to 16 years in prison for standing against hate.    Gino is accused—without evidence—of alleged actions during a protest against the far-right’s "Day of Honour" in Budapest—a yearly event glorifying Nazi collaborators.   Currently detained in France, Gino awaits a critical decision tomorrow on his extradition to Hungary under a European Arrest Warrant. Under Orbán’s regime, Hungary’s judiciary is notorious for political trials and silencing dissent. Sending Gino there means risking unfair prosecution and extreme punishment.   We demand #FreeGino, an EU-wide ban on extraditions to countries that fail to uphold rule of law, and an end to the persecution of antifascists!   Solidarity against fascism. Today, on International Migrants’ Day, we must speak out against a concerning development in Europe. The European Commission has marked this day not with compassion, but with a shocking announcement: it is giving EU countries the greenlight to conduct pushbacks at Europe’s borders. This effectively denies vulnerable people their right to seek asylum—a fundamental human right. This decision is a troubling reflection of the growing influence of far-right policies in Europe, further eroding the EU’s commitment to protecting migrants and asylum seekers. On this International Migrants’ Day, we stand firm in our belief that human rights are universal. Thanks to the efforts of Left MEP Younous Omarjee, the RESTORE report has been successfully adopted! This will provide critical support to Mayotte, aid the rebuilding of the Valencia region, and assist Central and Eastern European areas affected by the devastating 2024 floods. As the rapporteur for this initiative, Younous Omarjee (La France Insoumise, France) is focused on delivering tangible results for citizens. He explains: “The scheme we’ve adopted will enable us to provide unprecedented support to Mayotte, rebuild the Valencia region, and help Central and Eastern Europe recover from the 2024 floods. It will also help us respond to potential natural disasters in 2025. On this #InternationalHumanRightsDay, European solidarity lies in ruins. As bombs continue to fall on a recently liberated Syria, western governments are already proposing to deport hundreds of thousands of Syrians who have found refuge in Europe. Far-right extremism is surging. Refugees are increasingly scapegoated. And Western nations are manipulating the "safe-countries" list to suit their own convenience—not to safeguard lives. The EU is complicit in this systemic injustice by betraying its founding values. We will not be silent. We need justice, equality, and an alternative to a system that sacrifices people for power. Borders will not stop us, oppression will not silence us, and exploitation will not break us.

Genocide is well defined, and it is happening now. Today marks 76 years since the adoption of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. In the wake of the Holocaust, this pact was forged as a vow to victims and survivors: Never Again. Despite this pledge, we are witnessing genocide again today, aided and abetted by Western governments. Under the Convention, genocide is clearly defined by specific targeted acts: killing members of the group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction; imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; and forcibly transferring children of the group to another group. Almost every single one of these conditions has been inflicted on the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank. Holding the perpetrators to account is an obligation, not a choice. Every government must ratify and enforce the Convention.
