⚡ Tractebel hosted Terra Praxis’ key convening of industry leaders to explore how innovation can accelerate the deployment of nuclear power and unlock its potential in the energy transition.   🤝 Following the KPMG Belgium/Belgian Nuclear Forum panel earlier this week, the event gathered high-level representatives from diverse sectors, including nuclear technology developers, law and engineering firms, financial institutions, think tanks and NGOs, research centres and universities and big tech companies worldwide.   ⚛ The event occurs at a pivotal moment for Belgium when the upcoming new government discusses how to revive the nuclear industry, which aligns perfectly with our carbon-neutrality goals. 📍 Our third annual Building Information Modelling (BIM) seminar was held last week in Brussels to drive company-wide innovation by bringing together our BIM experts and enthusiasts from across all our departments. 🏗️ The seminar is a highlight of our BIM program, which promotes the adoption and integration of BIM technologies, enabling us to deliver the most effective and efficient solutions for our clients’ projects. 🎤 Presentations focused on the latest in BIM developments, in particular the integration of BIM with #ArtificialIntelligence and #CarbonCalculation. Each department shared its achievements, challenges, solutions and strategic visions, fostering the collaborative spirit of mutual learning. 🤝 The BIM program continues to be a pivotal initiative in advancing #BIM technologies across all our departments. ⚛ How can new nuclear capacity help decarbonise and boost Belgium's economy? To answer this question, Denis Dumont, Chief Nuclear Officer, participated in a roundtable discussion organised by KPMG Belgium and Belgian Nuclear Forum on the potential of nuclear new build with other high-level representatives from the Belgian industry.   🤝 The panel featured Archie Manoharan (Microsoft), Philippe Alboort (ArcelorMittal), Michel Vanhaesbroucke (John Cockerill), Peter Claes (Febeliec), Frederic Dunon (Elia Transmission Belgium), Stefano Buono (newcleo) and Magali Vercammen (KPMG). They discussed why new nuclear is needed in Belgium and explored how to make it happen. The speakers also addressed how to finance nuclear new build in the country with representatives from financial organisations such as BNP Paribas and FOD Economie / SPF Economie / FPS Economy.   💡 Denis called for the adoption of a comprehensive industrial vision that unites all stakeholders - industrials, policymakers, investors, supply chain and safety authorities to ensure the successful revival of nuclear energy in Belgium: "Beyond the capital investment, nuclear energy is a highly competence-intensive industry that demands expertise and collaboration. By engaging in international nuclear projects and fostering cross-sectorial synergies, we can make sure they are delivered on time, on scope, and budget.”   🛣 Nuclear new build can contribute to a smooth energy transition for the country. ⚛ First-of-a-kind intervention completed at the Blayais nuclear power plant in France! Jointly with ALTRAD ENDEL, our experts supported the French nuclear operator EDF in the framework of its upgrading programme (Grand Carénage) in replacing Blayais 3’s C elbow, a crucial component of the primary circuit.   🤝 This highly technical intervention is the result of nearly seven years of preparation and combined effort between the ENDEL and Tractebel teams. The replacement of Blayais 3’s C elbow, weighing three tonnes and measuring 90 cm in diameter, was performed during an outage by the ENDEL team with our support.   👷♀️ Tractebel was on site all summer 2024 to: ☑ control the clamping systems to maintain the steam generators in place during cutting, move them to the docking position and release them during welding, ☑ pilot various robotized non-destructive testing operations after welding, ☑ and support the project management. In the back office, our experts were also mobilized to calculate residual stresses in the post-intervention loop, line displacements for hot shimming, and support the field teams with civil engineering expertise.👨💼   🎉 "Our experts contributed to completing it successfully in the shortest possible time.
