  • Today we had our very first Researchers Present: Reflection Session seminar featuring Annelien Stijleman (co-supervised by Stéphanie De Somer and emeritus Ingrid Opdebeek) and Devanshi Saxena (co-supervised by Esther van Zimmeren and Koen De Feyter). This seminar was suggested by our PhDs and implemented to give our later stage researchers a chance to discuss their PhD research so far, ask any advice or outstanding questions, and reflect on their overall journey to get to this point. We are looking to many more seminars like this in the future! #research #development #project #reflection

Associate professor Universiteit Antwerpen, Advocaat Van Olmen & Wynant

  • The Baxter Family Competition on Federalism is back for a 5th edition in 2024-2025.  This edition’s overall theme is Federalism: Thinking Outside the Box. This is quite broad, and should allow for the following reflections:  ·         Can federalism reinvent itself to include actors that have often been left out (municipalities, Indigenous peoples, civil society, etc.)? ·         Can institutions of self-rule and joint rule be recast to better meet contemporary policy and polycentric challenges? ·         How can comparative law and politics help to “think outside the box”? The maximum word count is 8000 words in English and 8800 in French. The Competition is open to “young” law and political science students/PhD candidates, junior scholars and practitioners from around the world.  Contributors must be registered students or have obtained their degrees, in law or political science, less than 5 years before the submission deadline, that is February 7th, 2025. With prizes ranging from $1000 to $5000 CND, and a chance to present one’s research at a Symposium in Montreal in May of 2025, this should be of interest to many of your students/researchers/young colleagues working on federalism-writ-large. Details for submission and information on previous editions of the Competition (as well as several of the previous winning essays) may be found at: https://lnkd.in/ekGhj9tp
