What a start into 2025 with #TRBAM Had the opportunity to show our international efforts on the pre-standardization on #FTIR spectroscopy! End-year #arrivals. Qiuya Xiang joined our group to pursue her #PhD titled “Objective and subjective assessment of the impact of the urban soundscape on quality of life” under the supervision of Prof. Cedric Vuye and Karolien Poels. Qiuya obtained her master’s from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and her thesis focused on soundscape design in pedestrian spaces. The second #PhD addition to our team is the #CSC scholar, Mengzhe Tao, who graduated from Chongqing Jiaotong University, studying bio-based materials and the regeneration mechanisms of oil-rejuvenated #asphalt #binders in his master's thesis. Under the supervision of Prof. Wim Van den bergh, Mengzhe will investigate the synergy of #bio-oils with #epoxy resins for asphalt #recycling. Last but not least, our freshly graduated master's student, #Lex #Van #Sande who worked during the last year on the effect of ageing on bituminous mortars, is now continuing his career as a researcher at our #SuPAR team. Lex, assists with various asphalt tests, like the newly acquired #AMPT, as well as with binder testing for the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. We welcome all to #SuPAR group to help acccomplishing our mission for a #sustainable pavement infrastructure!

🎓 We’re pleased to announce our support for the Joint Master in Sustainable and Resilient Pavement Engineering (SURPAVE), a collaboration between the Universiteit Antwerpen, Universidade do Minho, Università degli studi di Palermo, and Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Starting on September 1, 2026, this master’s program aims to train professionals to integrate sustainability and resilience into road design and management. 🤝 At Sweco, we focus on the need for collaboration with universities, focusing on well-trained graduates and knowledge exchange. Our common goal is to inspire participants of SURPAVE to contribute to climate-resilient infrastructure. 💡 At the PowerCN2050 project's closing conference on December 11, Pascale De Paep, Business Unit Manager at Sweco, presented "Think Beyond Tile Flipping: Embrace Innovative Infiltration and Green Solutions" to highlight the importance of innovative approaches to pavements, focusing on infiltration and de-paving, and the crucial role engineers play in creating sustainable infrastructure. 💧 Innovative infiltration and green solutions are vital in addressing environmental challenges like flooding and drought. In Flanders, over 2.3 million tiles have been removed, equating to more than 230,000 square meters of de-paving. The closing event of the #POWERCN2050 project takes place tomorrow, December 11th, virtually and in person for all registered attendees. Panel experts will discuss the main outputs of the project, co-funded by the European Union, and the way forward to the #Joint #Master’s programme in #Sustainable and #Resilient #Pavement #Engineering (#SURPAVE). The joint master's is a result of the team efforts between Università degli Studi di Palermo, Universidade do Minho, Manipal International University and the University of Antwerp.
