Last Friday, I had the pleasure to experience being remotely driven in the port of Antwerp. It was a pretty smooth ride, thanks to Ush / Max Levandowski and Vay / Maximilian Schager. On Valentines Day Zuzana Púčiková and me organised a demo with a remote controlled shared electric car for our New Mobility Services community partners and stakeholders. Not only an exciting experience - powered by Vay & Ush - but also food for thought about the opportunities to boost the uptake of smart, sustainable, connected on demand and shared new mobility services to make our cities better. Interesting new use cases pop up. The demo was made possible by Max Levandowski the CEO of Ush who answered questions from participants during the trips. In this video the Berlin based controller/driver explains to us how it works while driving in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges area in the north of Antwerp. Wat een leuke, interessante middag weer! Vanmiddag reed ik in Antwerpen mee in een van afstand (vanuit Berlijn!) bestuurde auto. #Vay en #Ush gaan in Antwerpen daadwerkelijk rijden met deze auto’s. Naar klanten, die het stuur overnemen als ze in de auto stappen rijden zelf, en geven op hun bestemming het stuur weer aan de remote driver terug. Nu nog vanwege de Belgische regelgeving met saferydriver (die echt niets doet behalve opletten), na de proefperiode alleen van afstand bestuurd. De remote driver ziet met alle camera’s in- en aan de auto, méér dan een gewone bestuurder! De bestuurder vanuit Berlijn legt voorafgaand aan de demo uit wat hij doet. En rijdt gewoon tussen alle verkeer, vrachtwagens en personenwagens, stoplichten en verschillende rijbanen. Foutloos. In het filmpje vraagt de safetydriver om een U-turn te maken. De brug staat open namelijk. En het voelt echt compleet veilig! Is iets voor Zeeland. Gaan we aan werken. Edwin Mermans

Samen met Koen Kennis maakte ik deze dinsdag een rit in een auto van Ush in samenwerking met Poppy Mobility, een dochtermaatschappij van D'Ieteren. Wat is daar zo speciaal aan, hoor ik u denken? Wel, die auto werd vanuit Duitsland op afstand bestuurd 🕹️ Een unieke ervaring die een blik gunt op de toekomst van autodelen... In de Port of Antwerp-Bruges natuurlijk, dé innovatiezandbak waar ondernemers en bedrijven naar hartenlust kunnen experimenteren met vooruitstrevende technologieën 🚗

First commercial, remote-driven car rental service in Belgium! We did it. This is an historical and pivotal moment for Belgian mobility. Teaser time ! 📰 Ush (with our partners Poppy Mobility & Vay) recently got permits from authorities to start the pilot of a service for a few vehicles on public roads, a first in Belgium!! 💥 I can't wait to tell you more about who is involved and what the service is actually about but it will have to wait a bit longer. 🫢
