Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Chief Accountant to join our growing real estate business. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the accounting functions, ensuring the integrity of financial statements, and supporting financial reporting and compliance. The Chief Accountant will work closely with the CFO & senior management to manage the group's Accounting department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
- Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Implement and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures to safeguard assets and ensure the accuracy of financial data.
- Ensure timely and accurate tax filings, including VAT, income tax, and other local and international tax obligations.
- Assist the Business Controller with the preparation of annual budgets and provide strategic input into financial planning and decision-making.
- Oversee cash flow management, ensuring adequate liquidity for real estate operations, project funding, and investments.
- Liaise with external auditors and manage the audit process to ensure compliance and accurate reporting.
- Prepare and file required regulatory and compliance reports.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax laws, and other relevant regulations in the real estate industry.
- Support senior management in financial planning, investment analysis, and operational strategies.
Qualifications:
- Circa 10 years experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership role, preferably within the real estate sector.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax regulations.
- Experience with real estate accounting software is a plus.
- In-depth understanding of both local Belgium GAAP and IFRS
- Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills, and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in financial modeling and investment analysis for real estate transactions and developments.
- Knowledge of IFRS and Belgium GAAP accounting standards.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking.
