The Affordable Housing Initiative European Partnership is moving to another level, offering individually designed training. Last Thursday (December 5), we gathered policymakers, social and affordable housing professionals, cities, and key actors in Europe’s housing sector for a networking lunch hosted by the European Economic and Social Committee in the European Commission to celebrate the launch of Phase II of the Affordable Housing Initiative. 𝗩𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 Oliver Röpke, President of the EESC, described the programme as “a significant step forward in ensuring affordable, sustainable, and dignified housing across Europe" that should be "a platform for partnerships and collective action.” MEP Marcos Ros Sempere called for urgency in addressing the crisis, noting: “The EU has a critical role to play: we can invest, regulate, and encourage Member States to establish common rules for better housing. The time to act is now.” MEP Kim van Sparrentak underscored the momentum: “We must prioritise social housing districts. With the political will we have today, we cannot let this opportunity slip away.” Amaryllis Verhoeven from the European Commission's DG GROW emphasised the importance of building on successful practices while fostering innovation and partnerships. She highlighted the critical role of public, cooperative, and social housing providers within the social economy, stressing that private funding must be integrated into the solutions. Bent Madsen, President of Housing Europe, reflected on the progress: “Three or four years ago, such a programme would have been unimaginable. 🚘 In case you missed it, we're paving the way to better driving safety🚘 Recently, we've moved ahead on road safety and vehicle innovation with a new United Nations Regulation on Driver Control Assistance Systems (DCAS). It was adopted by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) World Forum for the Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29). This regulation ensures improved safety and performance for driver assistance systems. What does this mean for drivers and the automotive industry? DCAS technology assists drivers in maintaining the vehicle’s motion – steering, acceleration, and braking – without fully automating the driving task. Drivers remain in control, constantly monitoring their surroundings and the system’s performance to intervene when needed. For Europe, the impact is clear. The European Commission played a crucial role in shaping this regulation, ensuring it was integrated into the EU Type Approval Framework. This guarantees that vehicles equipped with these advanced systems meet harmonised safety standards across Europe, paving the way for safer roads and smoother market operations. Why does it matter? ✔️ Enhanced safety Improved driver monitoring and assistance systems support responsible driving while reducing risks on the road. ✔️ Innovation unlocked Automakers now have a robust framework to develop and deploy next-generation assistance technologies. ✔️ Global impact This regulation harmonises standards internationally, supporting European manufacturers in reaching global markets efficiently. The adoption of this regulation showcases the EU’s commitment to safe, innovative, and competitive automotive solutions. By aligning EU and international standards, we're committing to safe, innovative and competitive mobility. 🔗 Read the original UNECE press release: https://lnkd.in/gUBCuJxx 🔗 Discover more on the EU's work in shaping vehicle safety: https://lnkd.in/eb_HGmTy 🔗 The DCAS Regulation in 24- EU languages: https://lnkd.in/e-gHqH9f
