Co-funded by European Space Agency - ESA, M4PM aims to leverage microgravity to create 3D tumor, organoid, and spheroid models for advancing in-space: 💊 Drug screening, development & testing 🦠 Disease modelling 🧫 Regenerative medicine 🎯 Personalised and precision medicine 🧪🔬👨🚀 Why Space? Microgravity allows cells to grow and interact in ways impossible on Earth, enabling the generation of improved 3D tissue models. This offers new opportunities for disease modelling and drug discovery, accelerating breakthroughs in personalized medicine. 🌍➡️🚀 First Mission: Advancing Parkinson’s Disease Research M4PM’s first mission will focus on Parkinson’s disease, with OrganoTherapeutics SARL as the pilot customer, studying midbrain organoids. Their goal is to develop a more accurate disease model and uncover new treatment insights. 🛰️ Next Steps: Establishing a Space-Based Research Service After the demo mission, M4PM will continue supporting research aboard the ISS, aiming to establish a commercial space platform for disease modelling, drug testing, and bio-manufacturing. 🌋 Space Volcanic Algae counts down the time to fly and be implemented on-board the ISS as Part of the First Polish Technology and Science Mission “IGNIS” to the ISS in Spring 2025. 🚀 The experiment cube SVA—Space Volcanic Algae, manufactured by Extremo Technologies, tested by the ICE Cubes Service team, and thanks to European Space Agency - ESA support — is ready to launch as part of the ''IGNIS'' mission. 🟢 This innovative biotechnological experiment will investigate the ability of extremophilic volcanic microalgae to survive and adapt to space conditions, with a view to future space missions and applications in closed-loop systems and space medicine. 🟢 The mission is a crucial step to assess extremophilic volcanic algae plasticity and multifunctionality as species for different types of use in the missions, as well as innovative sensors built by our team. The Space Volcanic Algae experiment 🧪 will be implemented 🚀 and functionally verified by Polish ESA project astronaut Dr Slawosz Uznanski and operated in the ICE Cubes Facility at the International Space Station Columbus module by ICE Cubes Service, while the Extremo Technologies mission team will guide and control the experiment from the laboratory according to coherent procedures from Earth. 📚 As an educational part of our mission, we will emphasize the importance of interdisciplinary STEAM education, which is an inseparable part of our company. 🌌 LeopardISS Heads to the ISS as Part of the Polish “IGNIS” Mission in Spring 2025 The LeopardISS project, developed by KP Labs, is set to launch as part of the IGNIS mission in 2025. This advanced data processing unit, designed for the International Space Station, will validate AI algorithms directly in orbit. After months of thorough testing and integration with the ICE Cubes Facility, LeopardISS is ready for its mission to the ISS. 🧠 This compact system provides researchers, entrepreneurs, and students with the opportunity to test AI and machine learning algorithms in a real-space environment. By achieving flight heritage, it eliminates the need for standalone satellites, making space innovation more accessible and cost-effective. As part of its mission objectives, LeopardISS will support advanced research conducted by Politechnika Poznańska. Their team is developing innovative tools for 3D image mapping, tailored for planetary rover missions. 👨🚀 As part of the IGNIS mission, Polish astronaut Slawosz Uznanski will incorporate LeopardISS into his scientific agenda. His work will include assessing the system’s functionality and ensuring smooth operations. 📡 LeopardISS will be hosted in the ICE Cubes Facility, operated by the ICE Cubes Service, within the ISS Columbus module, enabling real-time communication. 🚀 Ready for Launch! 🚀 🔬 Exciting advancements are underway with the Science Cube Mk2 as University of Oxford, NDORMS and Prenetics collaboration prepares for its trip to the ISS tonight! 🌍 “Ageing beyond Earth”: This collaborative experiment aims to uncover the cellular and molecular pathways of ageing under microgravity conditions using 3D organoid models. The findings could help model the ageing process on Earth and identify new drug or supplement targets to enhance the health span of both the elderly on Earth and astronauts in space. 👩🚀 The Science Cube Mk2 brings significant enhancements: ‼️ Doubling the number of Samples: from 6 to 12 x 4ml 🌡️ Temperature Control: Maintained at 37°C to mimic physiological conditions 📹 Independent Monitoring: Control temperature, optical observation, and illumination independently for each group of 6 tubes 🧰 Enhanced Containment: Two levels of containment ensure safe handling of biohazard samples within the cube The Science Cube Mk2 will be hosted inside the ICE Cubes Facility in the Columbus module, to be monitored remotely by the scientists at Oxford, via their Space Innovation Lab. 🚀 Ready for Launch! 🚀 While the RISE (Resilient Integrated Structural Elements) cube of Università degli Studi di Trieste & PICOSATS SRL patiently waits to be launched to the #ISS, we would like to share an overview of the project. The RISE Experiment Cube consists of two main components: 🛰️ Innovative Satellite Structure: The primary experiment showcases a design that integrates power and data distribution directly into 3D-printed structural components, for a more resilient, robust and lightweight design for future satellites. This innovative approach may lead to an easier, cost-effective production, with flexibility and modularity suited for a range of applications, from Earth observation and telecommunications to astrophysics and planetary exploration. 🌏 📷 Educational and Inspirational Component: The secondary payload features a chamber equipped with a camera and an E-Ink screen, along with a soft material "Medallion" that serves as a floating element to showcase microgravity. 🚀 Ready for Launch! 🚀 As we approach the much-anticipated launch of Romanian InSpace Engineering (RISE) DropCoal experiment to the International Space Station, we are thrilled to share a quick recap and some cool photos (courtesy of RISE & ESA)! Developed entirely in Romania by RISE, with the support of the European Space Agency - ESA, this pioneering experiment will study, over a period of 6 months, how two droplets - water and 10% ethanol - merge and mix in microgravity. The payload will be accommodated in our ICE Cubes Facility in Columbus, enabling ground operators to monitor and control the experiment remotely. 🎮 DropCoal focuses on the coalescence phenomenon, with potential to yield valuable insights into combustion and rocket engine efficiency, microbiology, and the transport and absorption of medicine in the human body.
