This week, the annual European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) congress took place in Hamburg, spotlighting the growing importance of radiopharmaceuticals within life sciences. The highly anticipated ⭐ EFPIA annual report 2024 ⭐ is here! As part of Quantum Biospace’s mission to catalyze the TechBio revolution in Belgium, we are excited to share five key insights from the report: 🌍 Europe remains the second largest pharmaceutical market, accounting for 22.7% of global net sales in 2023. 🌍 Europe leads in pharmaceutical R&D, with €47 billion invested in 2023, ranking second after the US and significantly ahead of China and Japan. For the first time in 2023, China outpaced Europe as the originator of new active substances launched globally (US: 28, China: 25, Europe: 17). 🌍 China's R&D expenditure growth rate is notably higher than that of the US and Europe (16.3%, 5.1%, and 6.7% respectively). 🌍 Belgium excels in the European pharmaceutical scene, ranking 4th in R&D expenditure and 3rd in production, demonstrating its outsized influence. In conclusion, Europe must leverage AI to enhance the efficiency of its R&D. This can be achieved by investing in sequencing technology innovation, advancing research in #GenAI and #CausalAI, and supporting large-scale population sequencing initiatives. Key to this effort is the accelerated implementation of initiatives such as the European Health Data Space and Beyond 1 Million Genomes.
