The bulk of the collection consists of autograph letters and receipts written in 1899 and 1900 to Warren C. Crane by the artist/engravers William and Emily Sartain, relating to Crane's acquisition of prints from the estate of their father, the Philadelphia artist/engraver/publisher John Sartain; also includes one later letter from William Sartain (1912); and letters from Harriet Sartain (1899), Cecelia Schussele (widow of the artist Christian Schussele; 1899), and Addison Van Name (1900), on matters relating to John Sartain, as well as two notes in Crane's hand, one of them made in 1926 on a scrap envelope and evidently intended as a description of this collection. Other materials include a small engraved portrait of John Sartain, 3 photographs of the interior of the Sartain house, a clipped obituary of John Sartain, and a copy of the 8 May 1852 issue of Fitzgerald's city item, containing a front-page article on Sartain
