We’ve still got a year and change to wait for Marvel’s Fantastic Four MCU reboot, but this week, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shared a couple of interesting tidbits about the film. None of these revelations were especially shocking, but Feige did confirm two major plot details that had only been hinted at by the marketing material previously.

On Wednesday, Feige appeared on the debut episode of The Official Marvel Podcast. The host asked him which upcoming projects he’s most excited about, and he admitted that The Fantastic Four is currently at the top of his list. He also revealed that the movie starts shooting on July 29, which is the day after San Diego Comic-Con ends.

The host also mentioned the artwork Marvel shared alongside its February cast announcement, which is when we learned that Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn would play the First Family in the 2025 movie. She pointed out that the artwork seemed to suggest the movie might be a 1960s period film, which Feige confirmed.

“Yes, yes, very much so. It is a period [piece],” Feige told her.

“And there was another piece of art we released with Johnny Storm flying in the air making a 4 symbol, and there was a cityscape in the corner of that image, and there were a lot of smart people who noticed that that cityscape didn’t look exactly like the New York that we know or the New York that existed in the ’60s in our world,” Feige added.

Without completely spelling it out Feige all but confirmed that The Fantastic Four will take place in an alternate reality somewhere in the multiverse. Presumably, the team will find its way to the main MCU continuity by the end of the movie, but they won’t start there.
