Alba, in partnership with the International Sports Academies Federation (ISAF), successfully hosted the 3rd edition of the Alba Sports Festival on 14 and 15 February 2025 at Alba Club, Riffa. Bringing together around 1,500 amateur athletes from 21 nationalities and 43 sports academies, the festival featured 18 sports competitions, including swimming, tennis, padel, football, darts, snooker, bowling, and walkathon, along with new events such as athletics, arm wrestling, strongest man, and fencing. In a forward step towards its ambitious decarbonisation goals, Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), the world's largest aluminium smelter on a single site, is embarking on a pilot programme for an electric, battery-powered Aluminium Fluoride (AlF3) feeding vehicle. This innovative step, utilising a cutting-edge vehicle from Techmo Car S.p.A., is currently being evaluated in Reduction Lines 4, 5, and 6. Alba will analyse the data and performance of this trial vehicle to inform its decision on a potential fleet-wide adoption of electric AlF3 feeding vehicles. This move underscores Alba's commitment to sustainable operations and aligns perfectly with its overarching Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy. Alba’s CEO, Ali Al Baqali, visited the headquarters of Midal Cables on 22 January 2025, where he met with its CEO, Khalid A. Latif, and members of the senior management. The meeting highlighted the strong partnership between Alba & Midal Cables, with Midal Cables being Alba’s largest client, receiving over 220,000 MT of liquid metal annually. Al Baqali commended the vital role Midal Cables plays in the aluminium downstream industry within the Kingdom and the region. As part of its ongoing commitment to developing its national workforce, Alba announced that it has promoted more than 2,080 employees over the past five years. Alba CEO Ali Al Baqali welcomed the Director of Academy at the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) Ian Cooke and the Regional Manager at LEEA Amro Hassan during their visit to the Company’s premises on 20 January 2025. LEEA’s delegation presented a special trophy to the CEO in recognition of Alba’s outstanding safety commitment and adherence to highest standards in safe lifting operations.
