Updates

  • At the start of this new school year, PPSM reminds educators that the school environment has a profound impact on children's mental health. These children, still in the process of growing, are particularly sensitive to their surroundings. A nurturing and positive school environment can promote their well-being and success, while a negative environment can hinder their mental and emotional development. According to UNICEF-Burundi, around 40.6% of children aged 3 to 5 are on track in terms of health, learning, and psychosocial well-being. However, a 2019 study revealed that 4 out of 10 people in Burundi suffer from psychological disorders. These figures highlight the importance of creating a positive and caring school environment. 🙏🏼 Be attentive and kind because every word, every action matters! Let’s create a space together where every child feels safe, respected, and encouraged to grow peacefully. #PPSMBurundi #MentalHealth #BackToSchool #WellBeing #PositiveEducation

PPSM plays a vital role in promoting psychosocial and mental well-being 🧠 As part of the BAKINGIRE BIGE project, @PPSM conducted a visit to monitor children under neuropsychiatric treatment in the Kirundo province. The purpose of this visit was to evaluate the progress of the children receiving treatment and to strengthen the resilience of the parents of the project's beneficiaries. The PPSM team first met with the doctors responsible for the follow-up of these children, and then gathered the parents of the children under treatment. This visit was beneficial as it strengthened the collaboration between healthcare professionals, PPSM, and the parents; this will enhance the regular monitoring of medication intake through the advice and coaching provided by the @PPSM team. • Training the New Generation of Psychologists for a Mentally Healthy World Within the Platform of Psychosocial and Mental Health (PPSM), an intensive training program is underway for the selected awardees from previous volunteer calls. This initiative aims to strengthen the capacities of young psychologists in professional practices related to mental health and psychosocial support. Under the guidance of experienced psychologists, these passionate young professionals actively prepare to apply their skills in various contexts where needs arise. They familiarize themselves with tools and techniques suited for assisting individuals experiencing psychological distress. This new generation of volunteer psychologists shares a common mission: to contribute to a mentally healthier world. Their commitment is a beacon of hope, as they stand ready to offer their expertise wherever it is needed. We firmly believe that these young psychologists will become key advocates for mental health promotion. Their dedication and passion represent a ray of hope for a future where everyone has access to mental health first aid. Stay tuned to discover the progress of our awardees and the inspiring stories they will share throughout their journey. Together, let's build a world where mental health is a priority for all. 🌟 #MentalHealth  #PsychosocialSupport #PPSM #CapacityBuilding

  • Celebrating the International Day of the African Child: Together for Children's Education in Africa! A Day of Reflection and Action for the Future of African Children Today, we celebrate the International Day of the African Child under the inspiring theme: "Education for All Children in Africa: The Time is Now!" This day presents a valuable opportunity to reflect on the challenges and opportunities in improving education and well-being for every child on the African continent. A Call to Action and Solidarity @ppsmburundi acknowledges the significant efforts already made by various committed stakeholders in combating harmful practices affecting children's mental health. The hard work of these individuals and organizations is a source of inspiration and positive change. However, much remains to be done to ensure that every African child has access to quality education and a healthy environment in which to grow. Encouraging and Supporting Change Makers We urge all actors – educators, governments, NGOs, communities, and families to continue working together to create a better future for African children. Their efforts are crucial in removing barriers to education and establishing protective and supportive practices for young people's mental health. A Day of Reflection and Planning 📝 This day should be an opportunity for everyone to consider concrete actions aimed at promoting the well-being of every African child. Let us come together to share ideas, resources, and effective strategies to overcome current challenges. Together, we can create an environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive. Finally, on this International Day of the African Child, let us renew our commitment to ensuring quality education for all children in Africa. It is a collective responsibility that requires our dedication and cooperation. The time is now to take concrete steps to guarantee a bright and promising future for every African child. Let's work together for a world where every child can dream, learn, and grow without limits.
