💡Gender-based violence (GBV) poses a major threat to lasting peace and human dignity. This violence has physical, psychological, social and economic consequences not only for the survivor, but also extends to society as a whole. To combat this violence, a holistic or multisectoral response is essential. This includes medical support to treat physical injuries, psychosocial support to help survivors overcome trauma, legal assistance to ensure justice is served, and financial or socio-economic support to help survivors regain stability and an independence. In addition to these measures, it is crucial to raise awareness and educate the population to prevent violence and change the attitudes and behaviors that encourage it. ⚠ Efforts to combat GBV must be supported by strong political will and collaboration between different stakeholders, including governments, non-governmental organizations, and communities themselves. #StopGBV #16daysofactivism #humandignity

🌟 16 days of activism against GBV 🌟 Monday, November 25 this year marked the start of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence (GBV). This year's theme is "Toward Beijing+30: Let's unite to end violence against women and girls." The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that begins on November 25, the #InternationalDay for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and ends on December 10, the #humanrightsday. This campaign aims to raise awareness and encourage action to end gender-based violence. Why is orange the color of 16 Days of Activism? According to the Secretary General of the United Nations in 2008, “the color orange represents a bright future, a future without violence against women and girls”. We invite you to wear orange to show your support. #16daysofactivism #StopGBV #OrangeTheWorld #womensrights

Return to the events that marked last week at PPSM. From October 29 to 31, the coordination team of PPSM and a delegation from its partner, the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), conducted a joint mission in the provinces of Gitega, Ruyigi, and Rutana, beneficiaries of the TURA UTUZE project: Support for Psychosocial Reintegration and Social Cohesion, funded by PPLM and AFSC. The purpose of this visit was to share best practices used in the psychosocial interventions carried out on the ground and their impacts on the communities. The local authorities met expressed their satisfaction with the existing collaboration and the contributions of PPSM's interventions to the development of the municipalities. Our partner also had the opportunity to meet with members of the hill and communal committees for the psychosocial reintegration of returnees (CCARP) to discuss the interventions they conduct daily and the challenges they face on the ground. In Gitega, the AFSC delegation also participated in the coordination meeting, a framework for exchange with other organizations working in the mental health field, regularly organized by PPSM under the direction of the provincial administration and the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Development (DPDFS). This framework is an asset for collaboration among actors in case management and the complementarity of psychosocial service offerings. It should be noted that at the end of each visit to these three provinces of intervention, #PPSM, with the support of #AFSC, provided members of the established solidarity groups with a donation of livestock to help them recover socio-economically. #projetturautuze #socialcohesion #mentalhealth

According to Psychotherapist Nathaniel Branden, “Self-esteem is the reputation we have for ourselves.” Good self-esteem is essential to leading a fulfilled and balanced life. To build a positive self-image, it is crucial to recognize and value one's own qualities and successes. Take time each day to write down three things you did well or aspects of yourself that you appreciate. This can greatly improve your self-perception and boost your confidence. Have a great weekend🥳 and remember that you are unique and precious….. Learn to love and accept yourself as you are. #selfesteem #selfconfidence #wellbeing

At the start of this new school year, PPSM reminds educators that the school environment has a profound impact on children's mental health. These children, still in the process of growing, are particularly sensitive to their surroundings. A nurturing and positive school environment can promote their well-being and success, while a negative environment can hinder their mental and emotional development. According to UNICEF-Burundi, around 40.6% of children aged 3 to 5 are on track in terms of health, learning, and psychosocial well-being. However, a 2019 study revealed that 4 out of 10 people in Burundi suffer from psychological disorders. These figures highlight the importance of creating a positive and caring school environment. 🙏🏼 Be attentive and kind because every word, every action matters! Let’s create a space together where every child feels safe, respected, and encouraged to grow peacefully. #PPSMBurundi #MentalHealth #BackToSchool #WellBeing #PositiveEducation

PPSM plays a vital role in promoting psychosocial and mental well-being 🧠 As part of the BAKINGIRE BIGE project, @PPSM conducted a visit to monitor children under neuropsychiatric treatment in the Kirundo province. The purpose of this visit was to evaluate the progress of the children receiving treatment and to strengthen the resilience of the parents of the project's beneficiaries. The PPSM team first met with the doctors responsible for the follow-up of these children, and then gathered the parents of the children under treatment. This visit was beneficial as it strengthened the collaboration between healthcare professionals, PPSM, and the parents; this will enhance the regular monitoring of medication intake through the advice and coaching provided by the @PPSM team.
