The #ATO, comprising a diverse group of #experts, has been established to #support the Ministry’s technical team in implementing the Feed Salone initiative. The primary focus of the event was to introduce the ATO team, clarify their roles and functions, and foster a collaborative working relationship with the Ministry’s technical team. Dr. Kpaka #highlighted the ATO’s approach as being similar to that of the Tony Blair Institute and the Overseas Development Institute, emphasizing #innovation and #strategic expertise. The ATO, led by Dr. Leonard Otieno Oruko, is dedicated to advancing #agricultural #transformation in Sierra Leone. On Friday last week, we were honoured to be part of the #ILRIat50 event, where the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) had the opportunity to showcase its mandate crops and the vital role they play in sustainable agricultural development. From cassava to cowpea, banana and soybean, these crops are key to advancing food security, improving livelihoods, and supporting resilient agricultural systems across Africa. It was good to have #TheRoamingChef Dennis Ombachi at our stand; hopefully he could, some day, bring a culinary twist to our showcase. Visitors had the chance to experience firsthand how our mandate crops can be transformed into delicious dishes, used industrially and served as feed and fodder — demonstrating their versatility and potential. They also got a glimpse of how our technologies are scaled through Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation and participation of our #Aflasafe partners, Koppert and Delish & Nutri Of particular interest to most, was how to access the planting material for the IITA improved cassava varieties. A question we got from some visitors, mostly from #Ethiopia and #Uganda was the reach of IITA's research on the fight against bacterial wilt disease. One individual with an entrepreneurial spirit also sought a partnership on commercialisation of our banana paper which helps protect crops against nematodes. A big THANK YOU to everyone who visited our booth, engaged with us, and shared valuable insights.
