Transforming African Agriculture through technologies and innovative partnerships
About us
Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) program is funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to increase agricultural productivity in Africa through the deployment of proven and high performance agricultural technologies. It originated from the need “to execute a bold plan to achieve rapid agricultural transformation across Africa through raising agricultural productivity" that was declared by participants in the Dakar High-Level Conference in October 2015 and led to the formulation by the AfDB in June 2016 of the Feed Africa: A Strategy for African Agricultural Transformation. TAAT is aligned with the objectives of the Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Program (CAADP) of the African Union Commission’s NEPAD, namely to: 1) eliminate extreme poverty, 2) end hunger and malnutrition, 3) turn Africa into a net food exporter, and 4) position Africa at the top of agricultural value chains where it has a competitive advantage.

On Friday last week, we were honoured to be part of the #ILRIat50 event, where the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) had the opportunity to showcase its mandate crops and the vital role they play in sustainable agricultural development. From cassava to cowpea, banana and soybean, these crops are key to advancing food security, improving livelihoods, and supporting resilient agricultural systems across Africa. It was good to have #TheRoamingChef Dennis Ombachi at our stand; hopefully he could, some day, bring a culinary twist to our showcase. Visitors had the chance to experience firsthand how our mandate crops can be transformed into delicious dishes, used industrially and served as feed and fodder — demonstrating their versatility and potential. They also got a glimpse of how our technologies are scaled through Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation and participation of our #Aflasafe partners, Koppert and Delish & Nutri Of particular interest to most, was how to access the planting material for the IITA improved cassava varieties. A question we got from some visitors, mostly from #Ethiopia and #Uganda was the reach of IITA's research on the fight against bacterial wilt disease. One individual with an entrepreneurial spirit also sought a partnership on commercialisation of our banana paper which helps protect crops against nematodes. A big THANK YOU to everyone who visited our booth, engaged with us, and shared valuable insights. Your participation helps drive the conversation around sustainable agricultural solutions and strengthens our collective efforts in improving food systems. #IITA #ILRIat50 #SDG2 #ZeroHunger #SustainableAgriculture #FoodSecurity #EndPoverty #SDG12 #ResponsibleConsumption #SDG13 #ClimateAction #SDG15 #LifeOnLand #CropDiversity #FoodSystems #SustainableDevelopment #ResilientAgriculture #AgricultureForDevelopment #TransformingFoodSystems #EmpoweringFarmers
