In celebration of Black History Month, a lunch and learn quiz was facilitated by Stacey-Lee Williams Executive Director from CURB (Citizens Uprooting Racism Bermuda). It was a fun and engaging way to learn about important aspects of Bermuda's history. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Stacey-Lee who did a fantastic job in helping us all learn more and, to our staff who attended the session. Catalina Bermuda is grateful to be able to support charities like CURB, and we look forward to holding future sessions. #blackhistorymonth

On Friday, November 8th, a group of Catalina Re Bermuda ladies participated in the Friends of Hospice (FOH) 5th Annual Ladies Charity Golf Tournament. Every year there is a theme, and participants are required to ‘dress up’. This year the theme was ‘Butterflies and Bees’ and the Catalina ladies decided to be butterflies. The event was held at Turtle Hill Golf Club and It was a fun day spent out of the office, team building, strengthening relationships, and raising funds for Friends of Hospice. Friends of Hospice capital campaign, ‘Help Us Grow’, is raising funds to erect a self-sustaining dual-purpose centre that offers exceptional medical, social, and spiritual support to its residents and loved ones. They are meeting two significant needs of the community: elder care and hospice care. For more information about Friends of Hospice and this campaign or to donate, see link below. This past Friday, October 18, a group of staff volunteered at Catalina’s Corporate Community Service afternoon at WindReach. All had a rewarding afternoon giving back and making a difference to the physical environment for those who partake in regular activities at WindReach. We started with a brief introduction by Tammalita Joseph, Fund Development Manager, Kate Terceira, Executive Director and Jen Lang, Environmental Education Coordinator before we broke into two teams and got started on our team tasks. Tasks completed: ✔Weeding and edging the pathways ✔ Cutting overhanging tree branches ✔ Removing old wood signs from fence posts ✔ Removing broken signposts ✔ Removing green waste using wheelbarrows or wagons ✔ Removing cane grass invasion throughout the fruit tree orchard ✔ Removing cane grass around the pump room and on the slope in the lower car park For more information on WindReach and how you can participate in a Corporate Service Day with them or how to become an individual volunteer, please visit their website https://lnkd.in/gXKNeX8. Thank you to all who were able to attend and gave it their all! It was a fulfilling experience, and we are proud of the positive impact we made! Thank you to WindReach for having us! Catalina donated to the Women’s Pan Am Challenge tournament for Field Hockey. It’s not just a tournament but a celebration of athleticism, teamwork, and the spirit of competition. We were also able to showcase our brand to a global audience. Supporting the women’s Bermuda hockey team aligns us with the values of equality and excellence and allowed us to gain recognition among a diverse audience of sports enthusiasts throughout the Pan Am region and media outlets. Funds donated supported a portion of the team's expenses. Catalina donated to the charity Dignity Foundation which is the charity branch that supports the daily operations of Dignity House, a private mental health rehabilitation center that’s purpose is to help restore, improve and empower individuals age 18+ who are facing the harsh realities associated with mental illness and substance misuse. The reason they exist: “Everyone, no matter what race, gender identity, age, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status or ability, deserves to live a life worth living and to experience positive mental health”. There is an increase in the need for mental health support on island that is accessible to all. Funds donated will help with the services they offer which are clinical, social, therapeutic, and educational. For more information, please visit https://lnkd.in/e_9PEddR. Catalina Bermuda’s ESG Committee also donated $1,250 to the Scouts Association of Bermuda. Catalina employee, Marcia Malpas’ sons had the opportunity to attend the 24th World Scout Jamboree in 2019. From fundraising and donations to the Scouts, they and a small contingent from Bermuda were able to attend. She said it was an amazing experience for all who attended especially coming from a small island of 63k where they’d be with 40k Scouts and leaders from 152 nations. They had amazing adventures, many of which they’d never be able to do in Bermuda, attended programs in leadership and cultural understanding and made lifelong friendships. Examples of some of the amazing experiences our Scouts are invited to attend can be found in the comment section should you be interested. These events are held every 4 years with the next one being held in 2027 in Gdansk, Poland. The future of Scouting in Bermuda is to continue to offer the opportunities to young people to expose themselves to real life challenges and experiences and grow as individuals. Catalina Bermuda’s ESG Committee donated $1,250 to The Pembroke Hamilton Club Foundation. This donation hits a little closer to home because our very own Shaquille Trott is a former recipient of the scholarship and a member of the community club. This scholarship helped him, and many other young Bermudians pursue higher education overseas. PHC, a cornerstone of the community, is more than just a sports hub as they offer a range of youth programs in various sports and extracurricular activities, all aimed at shaping well-rounded individuals. The primary goal of the PHC Foundation is to provide educational support to PHC members through scholarship programs and offer financial assistance to the athletic programs of The Club and to the schools in the community. The Foundation aims to support the development of student-athletes and assist the educational goals of youth involved in PHC programs. The scholarships will provide successful applicants with opportunities for financial aid to further their education at Bermuda College or overseas.
