-- WEEKEND ROUNDUP -- A quiet week of holidays is almost at an end. Crypto has been very disappointing relative to macro as altcoin supply sits heavy on the market with sellers pushing into illiquid books. Almost everything is double digit red over the last 7 days on a slow leak lower with volatility compressing. (hint: topside vols are starting to look cheap again) The US Fed will likely begin its cutting cycle this month as data has supported a soft landing. However, September seasonals tend to be a drag on prices so let's hope the coin/macro decouple continues! Once we survive September it is all eyes on the US election. Risk assets generally trade well in election years and the #Trump effect cannot be ignored. The vol term structure shows there is quite a bit of uncertainty into Nov (a high fwd vol implies high vol btwn two dates) With sentiment in crypto struggling, we see buyers of protection which keeps the skew bid for Puts. ETH vols trade at large premium to BTC with the basis firmly 10+ vols. We expect this to continue until sentiment in ETH improves and ETHBTC stabilises.
