The event brought together experts in #HumanMachineInteraction from Euro NCAP and the automotive industry to review the draft protocol, ahead of its official introduction in 2026. During the day, 10 vehicles were evaluated by specialists from each of the Euro NCAP test laboratories. The protocol aims to encourage vehicle manufacturers to implement good practices which avoid distractions by design. Poor interaction design can contribute to drivers looking away from the road for extended periods, whether performing driving-related tasks or whilst using other vehicle functions. As #driverdistraction remains a key factor in road accidents, Euro NCAP will reward control design that minimises drivers looking away from the road. 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 📜⁣ ⁣ Applus IDIADA is proud to contribute to drafting the European framework guidelines for testing connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) on public roads.⁣ ⁣ As a key member of the European Commission’s working group, Carlos Luján, Head of Homologations CAV at IDIADA, has worked alongside national authorities and industry experts to define safety-centred principles for autonomous vehicle testing. This milestone aims to harmonise testing requirements across Europe, addressing the current lack of a unified legal foundation among EU Member States.⁣ ⁣ W𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆?⁣ • A step towards standardised safety practices for testing autonomous vehicles.⁣ • Potential for cross-border testing, simplifying trials across multiple countries without the need for separate permits.⁣ • The groundwork for consistent integration of autonomous vehicles into European traffic in the future.⁣ ⁣ While the proposed guidelines have received broad support from manufacturers and Member States, they are still awaiting political approval to become an official reference framework.⁣ ⁣ 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗼𝘀 𝗟𝘂𝗷𝗮́𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲𝘀: "𝘉𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝑝𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘐𝘋𝘐𝘈𝘋𝘈’𝘴 𝘦𝘹𝑝𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺.
