Friday Quiz makes a come back.... The NOV Emergency Hydraulic Back-up System (EHBS) is an independent hydraulic control pod mounted on the lower BOP stack. When armed, the EHBS pod performs automatically in the event main conduit hydraulic pressure and electric power to the BOP control system 112-line MUX pod are disconnected or lost. The EHBS is a reliable safety system that activates customer-specified functions in the event of power failure, riser string disconnect or Lower Marine Riser Package disconnect. With the Adjustable Circuit Timer the delay required between functions can be adjusted as required. For Surface testing prior to deployment how should you set it up? Recent early morning coffee Monday past with Chad Walker at the HMH Special Blend Plant in Humble we were discussing a VIP visit he was preparing for. Perspective is Everything.- In Life and an Image. Sitting having a coffee on the upper deck an UDW DrillShip, you look out to sea and immediately feel insignificant, then turn your head a bit and your viewpoint changes to the complete opposite, your now on a huge engineering marvel carrying out unbelievable operations. Turn your head again and you're looking a pretty good size ship much smaller than you but not insignificant, one which is keeping you going, without the smaller ship the bigger ship will stop operations, its part of the machine. Wasn't until I went up the crown and took in the whole machine in front of me that I realised how we see things and judge on what we see in front of us, this was compounded when leaving the rig, how small it got and how quickly it became insignificant in the big old ocean. "Perspective is everything" serves as a reminder that our understanding of life’s complexities is deeply influenced by how we choose to see them. How is your perspective at the moment?
