make it simple architecture.

Sobre nós

Studio MK27 located in the chaotic city of São Paulo was founded in the late 70’s by architect Marcio Kogan and today is comprised of 40 architects and various collaborators worldwide. Kogan is an honorary member of the AIA (American Institute of Architecture), Professor at Escola da Cidade in São Paulo and Politecnico di Milano, considered by Época magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential people in Brazil, is part of “Wallpaper’s 150 Famous for 15 Years”, and came in 39th in Dezeen’s Hot List 2017. He leads a team of architects who, for the most part, have been working with him for over a decade. The team, coordinated by four directors, constitutes three main squads. Diana Radomysler, Marcio’s partner since the 90s, is the author of the interior design projects and coordinates its team. Partners since the beginning of the 2000s, Renata Furlanetto and Suzana Glogowski direct the architecture team and sign most of the designs. The architect Mariana Simas, partner since 2008, is the executive director leading the new projects, human resources, finance and communications teams. The architects of the team, great admirers of the Brazilian modernism generation, seek to fulfill the task of rethinking and giving continuity to this iconic architectural movement. The projects of Studio MK27 place value on formal simplicity and are elaborated with extreme care and attention to details. Since 2001, when he started a co-creation and cooperative work system at the office, studio mk27 has won more than 250 national and international awards, such as: IAB (Institute of Brazilian Architects), São Paulo Architectural Biennial, WAF, Architectural Review, Dedalo Minosse, Record House, Leaf, D&AD, Spark, Barbara Cappochin, Iconic, AZ, Buenos Aires Ibero-american Architectural Biennial, Wallpaper Design Award, Architizer Awards, The Plan Awards, MIPIM and Prix Versailles. In 2012 studio mk27 represented Brazil at the Venice Biennale.

Decameron's showroom, located on Alameda Gabriel Monteiro da Silva in São Paulo, aimed to create a fast, economical and sustainable building, while preserving the trees on the site. The architectural solution, which combines practicality and aesthetics, was achieved through the use of recycled shipping containers and metal structures. These containers, painted in vibrant colors such as yellow, blue, pink and green, were stacked to form two floors of tunnels where the furniture is displayed, creating a striking visual contrast with the concrete and exposed metal structures. Large honeycomb polycarbonate doors on the façade and at the back allow for a fluid integration between the interior of the store and the outside environment, providing natural ventilation and lighting. This design establishes a visual connection with the city and the tree-lined inner courtyard, creating a sense of continuity between the spaces. The office, located in a glazed outbuilding at the back of the plot, overlooks the courtyard, where pebbles complement the setting, reinforcing the idea of an urban refuge amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. The project also stands out for its sustainable and flexible approach. The revitalized containers have been thermally and acoustically insulated, increasing the store's energy efficiency.  In addition, the partially demountable construction allows the showroom to be relocated in the future, adding value to the innovative proposal. The result is a modern, welcoming space that combines the simplicity of industrial materials with sustainable, adaptable architecture. Images by Pedro Vannucchi

The main challenge of the Flag House project was to create a strong connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, a signature feature of MK27’s work, but adapted to Whistler's harsh climate in Canada. Situated in a ski resort, the house needed to blend with the surrounding nature while offering necessary thermal insulation. The solution was a glass box suspended over a metal-clad base, establishing a dialogue between lightness and solidity. While the glass volume appears to float over the landscape, the base merges with the snow, reflecting its surroundings. Marcio Kogan recalls the first visit to the site: “We arrived, and everything was white with the last snow of the season. We started climbing the steep terrain, and suddenly, I realized I had disappeared. I had fallen into a hole covered by thick snow!” Despite the climate surprises, the goal remained clear: “I wanted to create the same connection between indoor and outdoor here as we do in warmer climates. The glass box opens the house to the surrounding nature, and at the same time, makes the volume appear weightless, as if floating above the ground.” The interior of Flag House reflects the pursuit of simplicity and connection with the landscape. Diana Radomysler, responsible for the interior design, describes the house as "a frame for nature." The choice of materials, such as Dinesen oak and Ocean Pearl Flagstone, reinforces this integration with the surroundings. The house is also designed for living in close contact with nature, as co-author Suzana Glogowski highlights: “The family can leave and return to the house on skis, sliding straight in. The house is perfectly prepared for everything, connected to outdoor activities." Images 01, 03, 05, 07 and 09 by Fernando Guerra

Dani Zavagli and Dani Bertuol, our architects, embarked on a cultural and professional immersion by spending two months in Dubai, experiencing the city's urban transformation up close. The experience has been essential for both of them to understand the nuances of cultural and climatic specificities of the place, integrating these perceptions directly into the projects we are involved in. This immersion has allowed the architects to have direct contact with the way of life of the inhabitants of Dubai, their preferences and demands in terms of comfort and design, while exploring how the principles of sustainability, technology and innovation, so present in the essence of our office, can be applied in one of the most dynamic and challenging regions in the world. One of the projects underway in Dubai is the Sea Mirror Villas, a high-end residential development that reflects the search for architecture that integrates the sophistication of Brazilian design with elements of Arab culture. Inspired by the concept of reflection and the direct relationship with the sea, Sea Mirror Villas balances modern and traditional elements, prioritizing large openings, connection with the outside environment and noble materials, while meeting the climatic needs of the region, such as sun protection and cross ventilation. We won the competition to renovate the interiors of the iconic FM10 Building, located in one of Barcelona's major financial centers.   Originally designed by Swiss architect Marc-Joseph Saugey in the 1960s, the building is characterized by its elliptical floor plan and 11 floors, adorned with a sinuous grid.   We have redesigned the building's common areas and one of its eight residential apartments, choosing brass and wood as the primary materials. The paneled walls offer a subtle homage to Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion.   The design challenge was to integrate the classic and contemporary styles of the FM10 Building with its original architecture. We combined global design icons such as Gio Ponti, Serge Mouille, and Warren Platner with Brazilian design masters like Lina Bo Bardi, Jader Almeida, and Sergio Rodrigues.   A highlight is the imposing living room bookshelf, crafted in brass with fitted shelves, meticulously adapted to fit the curved wall opposite the glass facade.   Images by Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen   Click below for more: https://lnkd.in/dgAqMcNc

Flat Oak, designed by Studio MK27, is a remarkable example of how light and textures transform a space. Covering 750 square meters, the apartment offers a welcoming and sophisticated atmosphere, thanks to the use of panels and bespoke furniture in light-toned woods. The atmosphere is both elegant and cozy, reflecting high-quality design. The soft lighting, filtered through translucent linen curtains, highlights the geometric shapes of the space and enriches the sensory experience. The living room combines mid-century furniture, such as armchairs by Hans Wegner and Gio Ponti, with contemporary pieces by Studio MK27 and Minotti, as well as coffee tables by Jader Almeida. Works of contemporary Brazilian art by Adriana Varejão and Vanderlei Lopes add a cultural and personal touch to the room. The Daiki Armchair, designed by Marcio Kogan for Minotti, stands out as an element of sophistication. Inspired by Japanese culture, Daiki has an elegant design and simple lines, available in a variety of finishes. The exclusive joinery technique and the versions with metal legs or swivel base give the armchair a perfect balance between comfort and modern aesthetics. In the context of Flat Oak, Daiki is not just a piece of furniture, but a focal point of elegance. Its refined design blends perfectly into the environment, harmonizing with the palette of materials and the planned lighting. The presence of Daiki underlines the synergy between the contemporary furniture and the timeless elegance of the apartment, demonstrating the excellence of the collaboration between Studio MK27 and Minotti since 2017.
