  • T20 Brasil Communiqué delivered to South African authorities On November 17, during the inaugural edition of Global Citizen in Brazil, the Communiqué was presented to South African authorities. On this occasion, the president Cyril Ramaphosa, and the minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, received the document. In the gathering with president Ramaphosa, Iuri Rosario, CEBRI’s project coordinator for T20 Brasil introduced the Communiqué and the Implementation Roadmaps, an initiative led by the T20 Brasil Organizing Committee. These roadmaps seek to bridge actionable pathways to implement the recommendations developed by the T20 Brasil and initially presented to G20 authorities during the Midterm Conference, in July. As South Africa prepares to assume the G20 presidency, the moment served to strengthen Brazil-South Africa relations and reaffirm both countries’ commitment to continue working in a common ground as concerns to Think20. The T20 Brasil Organizing Committee, formed by the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI), the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation (FUNAG), and the Institute for Applied Economic Research (IPEA) hands over the T20 to its South African counterparts, composed by the Institute For Global Dialogue (IGD), the Institute for Pan-African Thought and Conversation/University of Johannesburg (IPATC/UJ) and the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA). Brazil and South Africa remain aligned to promote an inclusive global agenda, connecting G20 recommendations to regional and global priorities, and seeking to achieve sustainable and just outcomes.

  • On November 11 and 12, 2024, the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation (FUNAG), the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI) and the Institute for Applied Economic Research (IPEA) organized T20 Brasil Summit, which took place at Itamaraty Palace in Rio de Janeiro (former headquarters of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs). Scholars and researches from various think tanks, and global civil society representatives resumed the discussions on policy briefs and recommendations of the six Task Forces of T20 Brasil (Fighting Inequalities, Poverty, and Hunger; Sustainable Climate Action and Inclusive Just Energy Transitions; Reforming the International Financial Architecture; Trade and Investment for Sustainable and Inclusive growth; Inclusive Digital Transformation, and Strengthening Multilateralism and Global Governance). In July 2024, the Task Forces delivered to the G20 leaders the Communiqué, a document containing implementation recommendations of the public policies of their respective areas. If the first semester of T20 Brasil was dedicated to the elaboration of policy briefs, in the second semester the implementation of recommendations has become a clear priority. Members of the T20 community were invited not only to elaborate implementation strategies and roadmaps, but also side events having implementation as a key issue. The last act of T20 Brasil Summit was official handover ceremony from T20 Brasil to South Africa. Next year, the Organizing Committee will be comprised of the Institute for Global Dialogue (IGD), the Institute for Pan-African Thought and Conversation/University of Johannesburg (IPATC/UJ) and the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA).
