We had an incredible time at SupplySide West 2024, celebrating the launch of The Natural Sweetener Alliance with our new partner, Manus! Our strategic partnership with Manus Bio, a world leading biomanufacturer, will expand sugar reduction solutions globally. The first ingredient to be jointly introduced is stevia Reb M, which is researched, developed, and scaled by Manus Bio, leveraging their existing all-Americas supply chain from stevia leaf, extraction, and bioconversion to final ingredient. This novel source enhances supply chain security and reliability for customers, while also paving the way for other innovative stevia ingredient solutions. 🥄Last week, some of our North American team, based at Hoffman Estates in the Chicago area, took part in a fun festive Iron Chef Challenge! 🥄 Hosted by our very own chef Christine Kerekes, the challenge was to create a holiday themed small plate featuring Tate & Lyle's ingredients. The teams were: 🔥 The Sizzle Squad Brigitte Farah, Tim Gallagher and Amanda Sia who created a Thanksgiving Inspired Turnover with Cranberry Sauce, featuring ARTESA® Chickpea Flour, DOLCIA PRIMA® Allulose, and All-Americas Reb M Stevia. 🧚The Sugar Plum Fairies - Trupti Palav, Amy Raczka, CCS, and Jessica Schroeder who created an Eggnog Tres Leches Parfait with Glazed Coffee Pecans, showcasing PROMITOR® soluble fibre, DOLCIA PRIMA® Allulose, and Eggnog Stabiliser. 🎅 Santa's B4Y Bakers Noah Muehlfelt, Rebecca Henrickson, MBA and Adrienne Pohrte who created 'Better for You' (B4Y) Treats for Santa, including Gluten-Free Hot Cocoa Cookies, Gluten-Free Eggnog Cookies, a Reduced Sugar Gingerbread Latte, and Fresh Carrots for Rudolf! This dish featured ARTESA® Chickpea Flour, Cocoa Extender, PROMITOR® soluble fibre, and TASTEVA® Stevia Sweetener. The judges - our panel of experts comprising Carrie Kolb, Sophia Pai, Florence Kraus Guenther and Veronica Cueva - had the tough job tasting their way to a winner. Even though all teams excelled with their delicious creations, there could only be one victor. So, the North American Iron Chef Challenge Winner of 2024 was......... Anna Pierce, Director of Sustainability at Tate & Lyle had the pleasure of speaking recently at the Confectionery Live event. Anna shared invaluable insights on setting sustainability goals, measuring success, and effective waste management: 💚Supplier Support: We actively collect data from suppliers and partner with them on their sustainability journey. 💚Sustainable Sourcing: Our supplier audit programme is crucial for sustainable sourcing. We have engaged both tier 1 and tier 2 manufacturing suppliers to complete appropriate independent audits assessing their labour, environmental, safety and ethics practices. This process is not just about compliance but also about building strong relationships to ensure sustainability in our supply chain. 💚Energy Efficiency Tracking: Using the ESG data collection tool Benchmark GenSuite, we track data such as energy usage and electricity purchases to calculate greenhouse gas emissions. Our sustainability engineering team works with our sites to identify energy efficiency and decarbonisation opportunitiesto achieve our targets. We attended the The Food and Drink Federation #InnovationForHealthierDiets parliamentary tasting event last week, showcasing our Apple, Oat and Cinnamon Mini-Muffin and Apple & Cucumber Energy Drink. The event highlighted the positive steps food manufacturers are taking to support healthier diets, with samples for attendees to try. We loved telling MPs and others about the complexities involved in the product innovation journey, including the steps taken to bring a prototype to market. Karen Betts, OBE, CEO, FDF, stopped by to sample our products with Mike Reader, MP - the mini-muffins were a hit! Rt Hon Caroline Nokes MP and Deputy Speaker also sampled them. Thank you to Marietta Sayegh, PhD, RNutr (Nutrition Science) from our nutrition team for bringing the muffins and drinks - and who was on point to answer all the great questions we got, and to the team who produced our samples.
