One way to help reduce this anxiety is by having a strategy to let people know that English isn't your first language. Let's take a look at some tips for acknowledging language differences. You may choose to tell the other person close to the beginning of the conversation that English isn't your first language. For example, when you introduce yourself, you can say, "I'm from Finland, so English isn't my first language." Or, "I want to warn you that English isn't my first language. Then, if you want, you can make a comment like, "So I apologize in advance for any mistakes." Or even, "So, if you're lucky, I'll say something funny by accident."
