  • As flu season is upon us, it's crucial to take measures to safeguard yourself and those around you. The flu virus spreads easily through droplets from coughs and sneezes, with symptoms varying from mild to severe. In our ongoing weekly #SafetyMoment series, here are some simple tips to help you stay healthy: 🧼 Frequently wash your hands with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer when soap isn't available. 😷 Use a tissue or your elbow to cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze to prevent spreading germs. 🏠 If you have flu symptoms, stay home to rest and avoid spreading the virus to others. 🧽 Regularly clean and disinfect shared spaces and high-touch surfaces to prevent the flu virus from lingering. 💉 The flu vaccine can help protect you from the flu and reduce the severity of illness if you do get sick. Consider booking an appointment with your local pharmacist to see if the flu vaccine is right for you. 🤒 Try to avoid close contact with people who are sick. If you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them. 🚰 Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated, which can help your immune system function properly. 🏃 Eating a balanced diet, getting regular exercise, and ensuring adequate sleep can help keep your immune system strong. 👀 Try to avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, as germs can spread this way. By following these simple steps, we can all help reduce the spread of the flu and keep our communities healthy this season. #3PeaksEnvironmental #Safety #HSE

  • As the frigid temperatures linger, we continue our #SafetyMoment series with essential tips for working on or around ice-covered surfaces. Here are some key points to keep in mind: 🧊 Ice Thickness: always assess the thickness of ice before stepping on it. Avoid ice that is thinner than 10 centimeters (4 inches). 🦺 Clothing: wear proper footwear with good traction to prevent slips, trips, and falls. Keep extra clothes in your vehicle in case of cold exposure. 🥾 Safety Equipment: carry essential safety gear like ropes, ice picks, and flotation devices. Whenever possible, work with a partner on or around frozen surfaces. ℹ️ Stay Informed: check weather forecasts and ice conditions regularly to stay updated on any changes that might affect safety. 📜 Emergency Plan: have a clear emergency plan in place, including knowing the nearest medical facilities and having a fully charged phone for emergencies. 💻 Training: if available, consider taking an ice safety training course to enhance your knowledge and skills. Rescue Canada offers comprehensive ice safety training programs. Let's prioritize safety this winter and be prepared for the unique challenges of working on ice! #3PeaksEnvironmental #Safety #SafetyMoment #HSE 📸 Photos by: Matt Mylleville

  • As winter sets in and temperatures drop below freezing, our weekly #SafetyMoment series highlights the hazards of working in extreme cold. These include impaired judgment, equipment malfunctions, frostbite, and hypothermia. Here are some essential precautions to ensure safety: ❄️ Dress in Layers: Wear multiple layers, including moisture-wicking underlayers, insulating mid-layers, and waterproof/windproof outer layers. Ensure all extremities are covered, and clothing is rated for negative temperatures. ❄️Take Regular Breaks: Schedule staggered warm-up breaks in sheltered or heated areas. Prolonged exposure to extreme cold can decrease alertness and energy levels. ❄️Stay Dry: Wet clothing significantly increases heat loss. Carry extra clothing, especially gloves and socks, and routinely switch out wet clothing throughout the day. ❄️Watch for Warning Signs: Be vigilant for symptoms of frostbite and hypothermia, such as numbness, pale or grayish skin, shivering, confusion, and fatigue. Take immediate action if any signs occur. ❄️Work with a Partner: Regularly check on each other for symptoms related to working in extreme cold. By dressing appropriately, taking regular breaks, and staying alert to warning signs, employees can remain productive and safe while working in extreme cold conditions. Stay safe and warm! #3PeaksEnvironmental #Safety #SafetyMoment #HSE  📸 Photo by: Matt Mylleville

  • The 3 Peaks Environmental team is conducting wildlife sweeps in the forests north of Fox Creek. In Alberta, these sweeps are essential for evaluating and monitoring animal populations, habitat health, and biodiversity. They are mandated by the Regulator for relevant dispositions. Before any land-disturbing activities, such as development, wildlife sweeps must be carried out. These sweeps enhance our understanding of Alberta’s natural ecosystems and guide conservation efforts. #3PeaksEnvironmental #EnvironmentalConsulting #Wildlife #Permitting #RegulatoryCompliance 📸 Photo by: Matt Mylleville

  • 🚗❄️ Winter Driving Safety Tips ❄️🚗 Just in time for the recent snowfall, we continue our Safety Moment series with a focus on Winter Driving, a key component of journey management. 🔹 Prepare Your Vehicle: 🚘 Equip your vehicle with winter tires for better traction and control in snow and ice. Ensure they are properly inflated and in good condition. 🚗 Check antifreeze levels, windshield washer fluid, and ensure your battery is in good condition to avoid unexpected failures. 🔦 Stock an emergency kit with food, water, blankets, clothes, and candles. Include a flashlight, first aid supplies, jumper cables, a shovel, and a scraper/brush to remove snow and ice. A road flare or reflective triangles can also be helpful in case of an emergency. 🔹 Weather and Road Conditions: ℹ Check local forecasts and road reports (use the 511 app) before traveling as weather conditions can change rapidly in winter. Stay informed about any closures or delays due to snow, ice, or storms. 📞 Postpone non-essential travel during heavy snowfall. If the weather is too severe, it's better to delay your journey rather than risk driving in dangerous conditions. ⏰ Allow extra time for your journey. Winter roads can be unpredictable; allow additional time for possible delays and be prepared for longer travel times due to snow-clearing efforts. 🔹 Drive Cautiously: 🚖 Reduce speeds and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. On slick roads, stopping distances can be much longer. A good rule of thumb is to increase your following distance to at least four seconds. 🚔 Avoid sudden braking to stay in control on icy roads. Use gentle, gradual pressure on the brakes to prevent skidding. 🚙 Know how to handle a skid. If your vehicle starts to skid, steer in the direction you want the front of the car to go. Don't panic or slam on the brakes - this can make the skid worse. 🔹 Journey Management Plan: 📝 Plan your route in advance and inform others of your travel plans. Share your planned route, estimated arrival time, and any alternate routes with someone who can check on you in case of an emergency. 🚑 Be mindful of emergency contacts and locations. Have phone numbers handy for roadside assistance, and know the locations of nearby shelters or safe spots in case you need to pull over for an extended period. 🔹 Bonus Tip - Stay Alert and Rested ⚠️ 🌚 Stay well-rested before embarking on your journey. Fatigue can impair your reaction time, especially in challenging weather conditions. Take regular breaks during long trips to stay refreshed and alert. #3PeaksEnvironmental #Safety #SafetyMoment #HSE
