Monumental news! Last evening Council voted in favour of the City of Waterloo entering into negotiations with Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region, as the leader of the BUILD NOW: Waterloo Region initiative to construct affordable and attainable housing on City land. Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region/BUILD NOW: Waterloo Region proposes to build 1,010 homes deemed affordable and attainable! This initiative is in partnership with the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors and aims to harness the best of our community and create something truly transformative. As a proud collaborator, we envision a complete community nestled within a vibrant public realm and natural setting. If successful, the buildings will be designed for low life cycle energy costs across a diverse mix of typologies, from three-storey stacked towns to nine-storey midrise buildings, providing studio, one, two, three, and four-bedroom family-friendly units. The Conestoga College Guelph campus underwent an extensive renovation in 2023 to revitalize the Welcome Center and promote collaboration between faculty and students. We’re excited to share a glimpse of one of our latest high-rise projects for Zehr Group- a striking addition to Kitchener’s community and skyline. Three towers uniquely angle to offer dynamic views for the residents of this proposed 1,000-unit development.   A shared podium anchors the towers with parking, retail, and vibrant public areas that invite connection. Thoughtful setbacks create a human-scale experience, activating the street and blending seamlessly with the neighborhood. Warm brick in the courtyards creates a welcoming, community-focused feel, while sleek glass facades reflect the energy of the bustling city. The Bright Building is located in midtown-Kitchener and is based on the design principles of Hygge: a Danish design philosophy with a focus on creating atmospheres that cultivate comfort, serenity and wellbeing.
