About us
Abacus Data Inc. is a full-service public opinion and market research firm specializing in public affairs and generational research. Abacus Data is one of Canada’s leading public opinion and marketing research firms. Having conducting research for some of North America’s leading corporations and advocacy groups, we deliver global research capacities with the attention to detail and focus of a boutique firm. Our work is guided by our commitment to our clients, the research process, and looking at things differently. These values mean that all reports, recommendations, and analyses produced by Abacus Data are supported by rigourously tested data, collected following the highest standards in research methodology. Often communication breaks down between organizations, the public, and other stakeholders because neither speaks the other’s language. At Abacus Data, we translate the attitudes and opinions of the public and other stakeholder for clients. This helps them make better decisions. Abacus Data has conducted public opinion research studies for some of North America’s leading public and private sector corporations in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. Our team of research professionals can manage all your research needs, both quantitative and qualitative. What’s different is how we interpret the data. No two research questions are the same. Neither is the method for answering them. What makes us different is our approach.

As I’ve been sharing in recent presentations and keynotes, a scarcity mindset is profoundly shaping public opinion in Canada today. It’s driven by rising costs of living, a housing crisis, and growing uncertainty about the future. The data speaks volumes: ✅ Only 24% of Canadians feel the country is headed in the right direction—a significant drop from 43% just a few years ago. ✅ 72% believe immigration targets are too high, reflecting how scarcity fuels zero-sum thinking. ✅ 66% feel corporate profits come at the expense of workers and consumers, revealing deep mistrust. This mindset doesn’t just create anxiety—it reshapes politics and society. It challenges long-held values like openness and optimism, deepens divides across generations, and makes political change inevitable. In my talks, I’ve explored how leaders—whether in politics, unions, business, or associations—must recognize this reality. Addressing the root causes of scarcity isn’t just about policy; it’s about rebuilding trust, fostering collaboration, and creating a vision of shared prosperity. The insights we’re uncovering at Abacus Data show the importance of understanding public sentiment to navigate these challenges. I’d love to hear your thoughts to this question: How is the scarcity mindset shaping your work or your organization’s strategy?

It’s official: good data now supports our planet! We’re thrilled to announce our partnership with Canada's Forest Trust Corporation to plant, preserve, and protect the Abacus Data Smart Forest™*. Starting with 2,000 trees, our Smart Forest™ spans the size 24 House of Commons Chambers, capturing about 280,000 kg of carbon throughout its lifetime – the same amount of carbon emitted from ~2,135 flights between Toronto and Ottawa. All while boosting biodiversity, mitigating extreme weather events, and fueling the green economy. "Together, we’re supporting nature and promoting the numerous benefits that a Smart Forest™ brings to the planet, people, and our shared prosperity," says Abacus Data CEO, 📊 David Coletto 🌎. Join us in taking nature-based climate action! *A #SmartForest™ is more than just trees; it’s a blend of nature's wisdom and cutting-edge technology, guided by the insights of Canada’s Indigenous communities. #GreenBusiness #Sustainability #CanadasForestTrustCorporation

We are very excited to welcome Kelly Bennett on our team and to invest and expand into Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada
Hello friends. There’s some news I want to share with you: I have joined Abacus Data as Vice President & Atlantic Lead and our first 2024 Nova Scotia election poll is out today. Abacus Data is a very special company. David Coletto and his team of researchers work harder and faster than everybody else. They ask the best questions. They are deeply curious. They are future oriented. They are optimistic. And when a project is done, you want to spend more time with them. Trust me, I did! Together, we will offer new and existing clients in Atlantic Canada the same quality, depth, and national experience that has made Abacus the most influential, sought-after, and impactful polling and market research company in Canada. We can’t wait to show you exactly who we are and how we can help. And don’t worry: This isn’t one of those farewell-to-Nova-Scotia messages. I will continue to live and work in Halifax. Abacus has opened an office in Queen’s Marque, which will be my home base. We are doing it here.
