🌟 On November 28, 2024, I had the privilege of volunteering at the AEE Alberta District Energy Centre Tour and Expert Panel Discussion. This experience offered valuable insights into the operations and challenges of Calgary's district energy system, highlighting its crucial role in enhancing energy efficiency and supporting decarbonization efforts. The district energy tour, led by Ikem Mbeledogu and Jason Grabinsky provided an in-depth look at Calgary's innovative district heating network. This system supplies hot water to downtown Calgary and East Village, improving efficiency by recovering heat from boilers and cogeneration exhausts. Their insights showcased how this sustainable approach optimizes performance and supports Calgary's energy transition goals. The panel discussion features esteemed experts Anouk Kendall, Michael Manarovici, Jason Grabinsky, David Papillon and Gary Saskiw. They explored challenges and opportunities of implementing district energy systems in Alberta, emphasizing sustainable infrastructure, long-term planning, and cost management. Their perspective underscored the critical the critical role of district energy in Alberta's energy future. I am deeply grateful to Cheska Ronquillo, P.Eng, Joad Clement, CEM, and Joshua Ulliac for this remarkable opportunity, which significantly enriched my learning experience. Special thanks to my amazing teammates Meshwa Panchal and Janice W., for their support and seamless collaboration. I look forward to contributing to more impactful events in the future! 😊

I’m excited to volunteer at the Calgary District Energy Centre tour and mixer on November 28th, supporting Association of Energy Engineers Alberta Chapter in event planning and capturing the event through photography. 💡 The highlight of the event was touring the district heating system and seeing how it operates. It was fascinating to learn how hot water is delivered through an underground pipe network to serve customers in downtown Calgary and East Village. The system also recovers heat from the boilers and cogeneration unit exhaust, maximizing energy efficiency and contributing to the City of Calgary’s decarbonization efforts. 💬 Another remarkable part of the event was the expert panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities of implementing district energy systems in Alberta. The engaging conversation highlighted the balance among energy efficiency, planning infrastructure with a long-term perspective, and managing costs for customers. 🌻 I gained valuable insights from this event, spanning both environmental and economic perspectives, and it deepened my understanding of Calgary's energy efficiency industry. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Cheska Ronquillo, P.Eng, Joad Clement, CEM, Joshua Ulliac, Meshwa Panchal, and Sanika Murkute throughout the event. A special thanks to Ikem Mbeledogu and Jason Grabinsky for their detailed explanations of the system’s underlying principles, and to panelists Michael Manarovici, Anouk Kendall, David Papillon, and Gary Saskiw for their thought-provoking insights. This has been truly inspiring and educational experience! #EnergyEfficiency #DistrictEnergy #Sustainability #AEE
