Join us for an insightful seminar featuring Gregory Vogel, Assistant Professor at Cornell University’s School of Integrative Plant Science. Dr. Vogel specializes in improving vegetable crops, focusing on disease resistance, quality, and consumer appeal, particularly for growers in the Northeastern United States. Seminar Abstract: Vegetable growers in the Northeast face numerous challenges, including emerging diseases and climate-induced stressors. However, there are significant opportunities, especially with high demand for local, high-quality produce. Dr. Vogel will discuss the Cornell tomato and eggplant breeding program’s methods to tackle these challenges, recent research on salinity stress, and predictive breeding approaches. This event is open to all faculty and students interested in agriculture, plant science, and exploring collaborative opportunities. Today, we spotlight (Ruth) Jill Urbanic, PhD PEng., a highly accomplished Mechanical Engineering professor at the University of Windsor. She is deeply passionate about engineering, #innovation, and creative design, and her contributions to advanced process design and manufacturing technologies are significant. Jill's research focuses on advanced process design and #manufacturing #technologies, and process planning for machine tools and robotic-based additive manufacturing systems. Her expertise has led to the publication of over 160 referred papers and recognition as an award-winning researcher. In addition to her research and teaching, she is actively involved in the Greenhouse Technology Network, where her expertise is highly valued. Dr. Urbanic works with growers to understand the dynamic interplay between systems, people, and crops to look for opportunities to create safer, and more productive systems for growing and harvesting.
