On #WorldPatientSafetyDay, UHN highlights the critical role of timely patient diagnosis and intervention. To enhance early detection of acutely ill patients, UHN has adopted NEWS2, an innovative technology for clinical teams. This system recently helped Kevin De Alba, a registered practical nurse at UHN's Toronto Western Hospital, respond swiftly when a patient's NEWS2 score jumped from five to nine. "From that escalation of care, we were able to prevent that patient from further deterioration and potentially going into septic shock, whereas without the NEWS2 score, we may have overlooked those symptoms," says Kevin. I recently had the honour of attending and presenting a poster at the inaugural “Advancing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in Transplantation: A Global Perspective" conference. This informative meeting highlighted critical issues of inequity within the field of organ transplantation and donation, while identifying actionable steps to advance our community work and research. I’m looking forward to attending and presenting again at next year’s DEI in Transplant conference!
