Today, we proudly shine a light on Peter Kossowan, our nominee at the Association of Fundraising Professionals Edmonton & Area Chapter's National Philanthropy Day Awards. For more than 50 years, Peter has exemplified what it means to be a light in the darkness through his remarkable personal and professional journey. Peter’s connection to cancer is deeply personal. After losing two young sons to leukemia, and later in life, his wife Millie to colon cancer, he was determined to transform his grief into purpose. Over the past 35 years, he has donated more than $150,000 to the Alberta Cancer Foundation through personal giving and the Peter Kossowan Golf Tournament, held in Millie’s honour. But Peter’s impact extends far beyond fundraising. With over five decades of service, he has held leadership roles with organizations such as Toastmasters and the Alberta Caregivers Association. His life motto, “Born to serve,” perfectly captures his unwavering commitment to making a difference in his community. Peter was joined at the awards by his daughter, Carmelle Sly, former VP of Communications with the Alberta Cancer Foundation, making this moment all the more special.
