The 2024 guidelines for our Project Grant Program for Organizations are now available online. This program provides one-time project funding to registered non-profit arts organizations in Calgary/Mohkinsstsis. Organizations may apply for up to $30,000. Total funding available for this program is $700,000. Applications open May 20, 2024, and the deadline to apply is July 3, 2024. Last month, Alcove completed the pilot phase of our Recreational Art Space which we opened in April 2023. This project was a partnership with the City of Calgary and cSPACE Projects to: 1. Invest in programming and provide Calgarians with gathering spaces for cultural activities 2. Enhance vibrancy and safety in downtown. 3. Support the recovery of our business community to promote Calgary as a destination city. Here are some numbers to show how we did in the past year: - We had nearly 8000 visitors to our Recreational Art Space to attend workshops, events and our drop-in art space. We currently have over 200 visitors each week. - We hosted 60 events and 100 workshops with over 700 workshop participants. - We provided paid opportunities to 110 local artists. - 85% of survey respondents said that Alcove has had a positive impact on their perception of safety on the street. - 92% of survey respondents said that they felt a positive connection to the space. - 82% of respondents said they felt more connected to the arts community. - 72% of respondents said they met new people and expanded their social network. - 72% of respondents said that their visit to Alcove has encouraged them to explore this area of downtown. - 70%+ of respondents visited a business (ie. restaurant, bar) in the area before and/or after their visit to Alcove. - 95% of respondents said that they are likely to visit downtown more often if there are more places like Alcove!
