He was promoted from junior developer to senior developer in just 2 days. What exactly did he do? Promotions have mostly been said to be a myth that people should not lay their hopes on. Many people try overtime to prove their skills and don't get any. Yet we have an IT professional, Marc Lipshitz who hit such a fast promotion. This is one of the craziest promotion stories you will read today. Marc applied to work at an IT firm as a Junior Developer with no formal experience or academic background in programming. Because of this, the company placed him on a standard training course. There was nothing special, he was just a regular employee who could also be considered an intern. On the second day, while diligently working through the exercises, the director who had interviewed him approached, curious about what was on Marc's screen. Initially, he thought Marc was distracted, maybe even playing games but he saw the unexpected on his screen. And this made him promote Marc immediately. So what did the manager see? Instead of the basic dialogue box he expected in the exercise, Marc had crafted a full user interface, complete with graphics, sound, dialogue options, and intricate logic splits. The director couldn’t help but laugh. As an interviewer who had interviewed many hobby programmers, this was the first time he saw a programmer with an advanced hobby. "How much hacking have you done?” He asked Marc. 1. To Marc, he was just a beginner programmer who had just been learning and had not gone to school for it. 2. He had probably learnt endlessly for over 6 months and did not think there was anything special about what he knew. 3. But on getting the job, he over-performed and scored himself a promotion the next day. Now, reflect on this: 1. Have you been meeting or exceeding your goals? 2. Next, consider the feedback you've received from your manager, peers or study buddies. 3. Also, think about your contributions to any team you're in. What amazing projects have you worked on? Did you complete works that made you wonder how you got there? Stop undermining your efforts. You are learning well and practicing fine. Trust your instincts. If you feel you’ve been making a difference, you probably have! You’ve got this! 💪🏽 Credit: Marc Lipshitz on Quora (https://lnkd.in/djvm7kaF) #Anutio #Careeradvice #Learning #Programming #CareerGrowth #Promotion #Inspiration #ITProfessionals #Leadership

  • Alex: Another year is ending and I didn't achieve anything worthwhile. What a waste. Anutio: Really? Have you thought about what you did accomplish? Alex: Not really. I just see the goals I didn’t hit. Anutio: If you had written down your achievements throughout the year, you’d see how much you’ve done. Alex: How would that help? Anutio: You’d realize you’ve grown, and you're not the same person from January. Alex: But there's so much I didn't do. Anutio: Not necessarily. Achievements can be small victories, too. Capturing them helps you appreciate your journey. Alex: So, you’re saying I should keep a record of my wins? Anutio: Exactly! It boosts your confidence and helps you see your progress. You’ll end the year feeling accomplished instead of defeated. Alex: That makes sense. I guess I didn’t give myself enough credit. It’s about the journey, not just the destination. Celebrate every step. Sometimes, we focus so much on what we didn’t achieve that we overlook our progress. Anutio: At the end of each year, take a moment to reflect on your achievements, no matter how small. Alex: You may find that you’ve accomplished more than you realize. Capture your achievements using the Anutio app today! #anutio #capturingachievements #careeradvice #careergrowth
