More than 30 years ago, 14 women engineering students from Polytechnique Montreal were murdered. We mourn their loss: Geneviève Bergeron Hélène Colgan Nathalie Croteau Barbara Daigneault Anne-Marie Edward Maud Haviernick Maryse Laganière Maryse Leclair Anne-Marie Lemay Sonia Pelletier Michèle Richard Annie St-Arneault Annie Turcotte Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz This violent act of misogyny shook our country to the core and led Parliament to designate #Dec6 as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Today, we remember and honour those who have experienced gender-based violence and those we have lost to it.

APEGA is proud to partner with GRIT on the emPOWER Car Project. Thanks to the innovation of professional engineers in collaboration with occupational and physical therapists, five amazing kids now have new mobility vehicles customized just for them. On November 28, we held a special handover ceremony to celebrate the first emPOWER cars going home with kids and their families, and to thank the incredible team of engineers, therapists, and volunteers who made this possible. Projects like this remind us of the differences we can make in our communities, together. Learn more https://lnkd.in/geVs3u_d
Five incredible kids now have the freedom to move independently, thanks to the innovative emPOWER Car Project. Designed in partnership between GRIT and APEGA, these customized, motorized mobility vehicles are giving children with disabilities the chance to explore, play, and engage with their world in new ways. Today, these children received their emPOWER Cars at a special celebration at Kiwanis Safety City. Watching them zip around with joy reminds us why inclusion and innovation matter. The emPOWER Cars are tailored to each child’s unique needs, bridging accessibility gaps at a crucial stage of brain development. They are lightweight, portable, and cost-effective (just $700 vs. tens of thousands for traditional devices), bringing independence within reach for more families. Built by passionate APEGA engineers and GRIT therapists, this collaboration is proof of what happens when innovation meets compassion. Thank you to our partners at The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) for making this vision a reality, and to everyone who supports GRIT’s mission of breaking barriers for children with disabilities.
