With 24 years of experience, Dwayne wears many hats—overseeing database management, software development, corporate IT, and technical customer support. What does Dwayne love most about his role? Finding solutions to optimize our systems and working alongside a team he describes as simply 'awesome'. One of his standout achievements? Rewriting our data collection engine with newer technology to exponentially boost performance. Beyond work, Dwayne is a passionate guitarist and songwriter with an impressive guitar collection. Fun fact: He started his journey as an Architectural Technologist before pivoting to IT and software development—a decision he’s clearly mastered! ERCOT is gearing up for higher energy demand this winter, adding 869 MW of capacity from solar, battery storage, natural gas, and wind. With colder weather on the horizon and industries like Bitcoin mining growing, peak loads are expected to climb. New rules now require miners over 75 MW to register, helping ERCOT manage grid resources more effectively. This carousel breaks down what’s changing and how the grid is preparing. Alberta Market Update Ahead of US Thanksgiving here is an update of where we are in Alberta. A small draw from Storage and less red tones on the weather maps has NG on the move higher from the lows we saw in the last update. December AECO is trading up 30% from $1.64 to $2.14 which is also where the remainder of the winter is right now. Summer has come along for the ride as well, bouncing up 20% from my last update. Currently summer is trading around $1.91 vs $1.59 at the beginning of the month. Even with the onset of cold and some snow on the ground spot power prices continue to bounce around prices Albertans are not used to. Forwards have added a little from the last update but no close to the gains seen in gas. The remainder of winter is up 4.5% and summer is a little stronger up 7.1%. North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC)’s 2024-2025 Winter Reliability Assessment sheds light on key challenges: ▶ Rising electricity demand, up at least 2% across most regions. ▶ Retirements of coal and gas plants are creating capacity gaps. ▶ Extreme weather could strain resources in regions like Texas, MISO, PJM, and New England. ▶ Natural gas delivery remains a concern in areas with limited pipeline capacity.
