  • 🫶🏼🍴”feeding people is a way of loving them” - shauna niequist. ➡️ here’s a few ideas of how you can show some extra love through food this holiday season: 1. donate to a local food bank - there’s various locations to drop off non-perishable items throughout the city - malls, grocery stores, community centers… 2. volunteer to prep/serve dinner at a drop-in center or women’s shelter. 3. invite a friend/colleague who doesn’t have any plans to your holiday dinner this year. 4. send a restaurant/skip-the-dishes gift card to a friend/family member who needs a little boost or lives far away. 5. drop off a warm meal or homemade holiday baking to a healthcare/shift worker you know who’s working through the holidays. 6. get your kids/grandkids involved in the kitchen. look through cookbooks together & pick out recipes to make. carry on family traditions & build some new ones! 🤍 #nutrition #health #wellbeing #givingback #christmas #holidayseason #yycliving #spreadlove

  • 👩🏻🍳 baking ingredient substitutions I like to use with my holiday recipes to accommodate certain allergens, as well to reduce refined sugars & unhealthy fats… ▫️milk chocolate chips - cacao chips/nibs, dark chocolate, allergen-free Enjoy chips ▫️white flour - whole wheat, oat, coconut, almond, chickpea, brown rice flour, gluten-free 1:1 flour ▫️sour cream - plain Greek yogurt ▫️canola/vegetable oil - unsweetened applesauce, olive oil, avocado oil ▫️eggs - flax egg (ground flaxseed + water), chia seeds + water, applesauce, mashed bananas, silken tofu, plain yogurt, runny natural nut butter ▫️egg whites - chickpea aquafaba ▫️butter, margarine, shortening - unsweetened applesauce, mashed bananas/avocados ▫️buttermilk - unsweetened vanilla almond milk, plain Greek yogurt, milk + lemon juice/vinegar ▫️breadcrumbs - crushed nuts, rolled oats, bran flakes ▫️heavy cream - evaporated skim milk, canned coconut milk, cashew cream ▫️cream cheese - low-fat cream cheese ▫️fruit canned in heavy syrup - fruit canned in water, fresh fruit, frozen fruit thawed ▫️whole milk - soy, coconut, almond, cashew, rice milks ▫️white sugar - unsweetened applesauce, mashed bananas, 1/2 initial sugar requirement (add vanilla/cinnamon/nutmeg to increase flavour), honey, pure maple syrup, coconut sugar, monk fruit, stevia ➡️ PSA: by no means am I suggesting to “healthify” all your holiday baking! traditional sugar cookies or ginger snaps are delicious & nostalgic. but maybe you’ll give a couple of these ideas above a whirl? happy baking! 🤍🎄 #nutrition #holidaybaking #christmasbaking #bakingideas #christmas #holidayrecipes #nutritioncoach #baking #holiday

  • ✍🏼 my go-to tips to relieve bloating, stomach cramping, constipation & overall GI upset this holiday season: ✔️ give one or a couple of these natural remedies a try! 1. prepare a large batch of homemade soup using bone broth in place of regular soup stock. can also just sip on a cup of bone broth solo - present in this broth are amino acids glutamine (helps fuel & soothe intestinal cells) & glycine (to breakdown fats) 2. snack on digestive enzyme containing fruits like:🍍🍌🥑🥭🥝 3. peppermint tea does wonders for an unhappy stomach in the evening zone before bedtime 💤 4. wear comfortable, looser clothing to dinner events - nothing worse than being in agony for hours from a tight belt amirite? 5. consume more cooked/roasted veggies compared to raw to ease the digestive process 6. do some abdominal circle massages on yourself to relief painful bloating/stomach dissension. moving in a circular motion with firm pressure from bottom right to left side 7. try to limit your use of straws & carbonated beverages - less air & bubbles hitting your intestinal tract is ideal like & share if any of these are helpful for yourself or a loved one. happy, healthy holidays ahead! 🤍 #nutrition #nutritiontips #yycnutritionist #yycnutritioncoach #guthealth #digestion #holidayseason #christmasdinner

  • 💡🤔 holiday season ‘food for thought’: 81% of your diet can be in your control. hear me out, • if you eat 3 meals daily • that’s over 80 meals meals between now & New Years Day (do your own math...) ▫️for example, say the next little while looks a little something like this: • Holiday Parties (5?) - 5 meals • Christmas Day - 3 meals • Boxing Day - 3 meals • NYE & Day - 4 meals That’s a total of meals = 15 meals 15/80… do you really need to wait until January 2025 to start making more nutritious choices because of 18% of the upcoming time? As a registered nutrition coach, I advise not waiting, there’s no time like the present to make positive strides within the eating bouts that are in your full control. 🎁 🎉 opening my January coaching slots this week! message me if you want to secure your spot for the new year. #nutrition #yycnutrition #yycnutritioncoach #yycnutritionist #yycnutritionexpert #newyear #holidayseason #balance #remote
