About us
The Climate Security Association of Canada (CSAC) is a new professional association that offers an institutional home for researchers, practitioners and others interested in climate change and security issues. It is a forum that supports research, public policy, knowledge mobilization, and public awareness. CSAC was created by its first President, Professor Bruno Charbonneau (Royal Military College Saint-Jean) and his colleagues Dr. Gabrielle Daoust (University of Northern British Columbia), Dr. Tom Deligiannis (Wilfrid Laurier University), and Dr. Wilfrid Greaves (University of Victoria). It was officially inaugurated on March 14, 2023 in Montreal.

We will explore how climate change raises questions about how national and collective security problems can, or should be, imagined and managed. The conference will discuss the production of climate security futures under the conditions of climate change by emphasizing the roles of technology, security practices and politics, and sociotechnical imaginaries in the conceptualization of management tools and practices that are meant to respond to the security consequences of climate change. More details to come. *** Réservez la date! Notre prochain colloque annuel se tiendra à Montréal les 5 et 6 mai 2025. Nous examinerons les questions soulevées par le changement climatique sur les façons dont les problèmes de sécurité nationale et collective peuvent, ou devraient être, imaginés et gérés. A slightly belated post about my amazing experience this week at the Montreal Climate Security Summit. Thrilled to attend this event jointly hosted between the new NATO Climate Change and Security Centre of Excellence (CCASCOE) and the Conference of Defence Associations Institute. Great seeing current and past graduate students from the Balsillie School of International Affairs in attendance, as well as my mentors from the Climate Security Association of Canada. Thanks to all the organizers, speakers, and other attendees for a fascinating two days; I can't wait to see what it's like next year!
