Though we celebrate Thanksgiving in different months - this is a time of year to reflect on what we "harvest". I mean, the answer is crops but oftentimes when you sit around the Thanksgiving table you talk about what you are grateful for. Taking a moment to pause in gratitude is it's own kind of harvest. As I mentioned yesterday, it is very easy to keep forging ahead but we must build moments of pause. What is the work for if not to appreciate how far we've come? Stepping back and taking stock is a way to harvest the joy in what you've achieved and the lessons in where things didn't go as expected. Gratitude is not just an appreciation of all the good things - it is in being thankful for wherever the journey of life has taken you even when it is not a lesson that is pleasant to learn. For the moments of wonder and fun - we can revisit that joy and sense of accomplishment and in the moments of difficulty and strife we can be proud that we came through it. One last parting note - holidays can be incredibly difficult for some - especially if you are going through a hard time. If your holidays look dark and you don't feel gratitude for anything, that is ok. I will be grateful for you still being here. Happy Turkey Day my American friends! I created this image in celebration and to show my gratitude for all of the people I care about dotted across the US that are hopefully enjoying the day in whatever way makes them the most happy. No matter the day of the year - I am grateful for all of you!

Did you know that babies who don't learn to crawl (or who don't learn how to properly crawl) *can* have long lasting effects from that? You can watch this video that explains the brain body connection on the STNR reflex https://lnkd.in/gM4gdqtA I learned about this when I had to take my older son to therapy when he was 8. He literally learned how to crawl all over again (along with dealing with some other retained primitive reflexes) and it was interesting to me how we just assume since crawling is not part of adult life - that it wouldn’t be important to learn later. The truth is that the neural pathways built by learning that skill were still relevant and required we just didn't know. It made me think about all the things I have learned and assimilated over time and what I might have missed along the way. When we start as babies - we know basically nothing - through time, instincts, trial and error, modelling, observation, teaching and many other small interactions we begin to utilize our brains and bodies in so many new ways. As we take on learning these tasks, we often dedicate our whole thought process to them but once we have mastered them - we often assimilate it as a form of "muscle memory" and it becomes something we do without thinking (or maybe not as much). How many of you have treated your business, roles or your career the same? How many things do you do in a day without thinking almost on auto pilot or how many reactions do you have that just happen before you've even processed your thoughts? Some people talk about it as critical thinking but I think it's more about that minute moment between thinking and doing that we should study more. What initiates it? Why do some people struggle to pause and consider before acting? What knowledge do we take for granted of being "right" on without checking? This is something I think about a lot in business - I think it's easy to ingest information and always forge forward on the path to building something great but sometimes you also have to look behind at what you have already learned and validate it's continued place/necessity. Did we miss a step? Is there a skill missing? Even if it seems somehow unnecessary - maybe it isn't? Maybe it's just like my sons crawling - worth going back and addressing.

The Mystery Machine tactic helps you understand confusing or broken systems by creating a simple model based on inputs and outputs. Start by identifying the inputs (e.g., information or materials) and outputs (what comes out of the process). Then, imagine the inner workings of the system and make a rough model, knowing it won’t be perfect. Use this model to guide decisions, revise as you learn more, and improve the system over time. #wellnesswednesday #wednesdaywellness #b4networks #mysterymachine #weeklytip
