  • A few weeks ago, young farmers from across the country joined us for BC Young Farmers’ annual Farm Fest 🎉, and we’re still buzzing from the energy, ideas, and connections that came out of this incredible event. From tackling key issues like growing pressures on agricultural land, exploring pathways for business growth and sharing resources to reduce waste, Farm Fest 2024 was a powerful reminder of how important it is to ensure we are building a strong, sustainable and competitive agriculture sector for the next generation of BC farmers and ranchers. We’re grateful to all the young farmers, industry leaders, farm tour hosts, sponsors and inspiring panelists for making this event truly unforgettable. And a huge shout out to our partners at Farm Management Canada’s AgEx Conference for helping make this collaboration a success. Let’s keep building on this momentum as we work towards a stronger, more sustainable future for BC agriculture. 🌱💪

  • BC Agriculture Council welcomes back Minister Popham and Ian Paton to key agriculture roles in the Government of B.C. Lana Popham has been re-appointed as the province’s new Minister of Agriculture and Food, and Ian Paton of the BC Conservative Party has been named Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Food. These roles are critical in supporting and advocating for B.C.’s agriculture sector, and we’re eager to engage with both leaders to ensure agriculture remains a top priority. BCAC President Jennifer Woike shared her thoughts: “As a major contributor to the provincial economy, the British Columbia agriculture sector has been an important piece of our identity for more than a century. With over 200 primary commodities grown, harvested and raised in the province, the sector is one of the most diverse in Canada," says BC Agriculture Council President, Jennifer Woike. "On behalf of our farmers and ranchers, we congratulate Minister Popham on her appointment to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and look towards a close working relationship where together, we enhance the competitiveness and growth of the sector.” View the full cabinet announcement here: https://lnkd.in/ghv5Tksv #BCAg
