✨ Member Spotlight ✨ The Cleaning Co-op is transforming the cleaning industry by paying living wages, creating opportunities to reskill, and providing pathways to member ownership. The cleaning industry notoriously profits off the undervalued labour of janitorial workers, but The Cleaning Co-op is flipping that model by dedicating the majority of its revenue to labour, specifically those who are doing the hard work. The Cleaning Co-op was born out of the shared experiences of three women who faced systemic barriers in the cleaning industry, including exploitation, discrimination, and patriarchal practices. Determined to create better working conditions for themselves and others, they founded Vancouver’s first worker-owned cleaning cooperative in 2023 to provide living wages, ethical employment, and a pathway to co-ownership. Today, The Cleaning Co-op employs 20 staff and services commercial and residential clients across Metro Vancouver. 🔗Learn about or hire TCC: https://www.tccoop.ca/ Are you a BCCA member who would like to be featured in this series? Member Highlight: Coast Car Co-op This month, we connected with Coast Car Co-op to learn more about their community impact, and how the BCCA can best support their great work. About Coast Car Co-op Coast Car Co-op is BC’s 6th locally owned Co-operative Carshare with 300+ drivers and 12,000+ vehicle bookings to date. The Coast Car Co-op was founded in 2013 to meet the gap in available transit on the coast and the high cost of owning and maintaining one or more vehicles. They are an affordable, flexible and greener alternative giving access to a range of vehicle types, with 6 vehicles in Gibsons, Roberts Creek and Sechelt. Their affiliation with Modo and Kootenay Carshare also gives our members access to over 1,000 vehicles in Metro Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo, Kelowna, and the Kootenays.
