It's been a week since the BC Non-Profit Housing Association #HousingCentral Conference - enough time for us to consolidate the new ideas, information and connections we experienced and integrate them into our plan moving forward.    With the ready availability of information online, attending conferences may seem like unnecessary time and expense for small housing societies like ours, but our experience continues to prove its undeniable value. Here’s why:  Uncovering Unknowns: There are gaps in our knowledge, from unfamiliar legal requirements to new operational tools and potential funding sources. The many questions raised at this conference opened doors that we may have taken a long time to discover on our own. Refocusing and Energizing: Post-conference, our to-do list is overflowing. It's a chance to prioritize essential tasks and connect with key people, helping us break out of routine and tackle what matters most. Building Valuable Connections: The personal interactions at these events often lead to robust partnerships, providing a trail of contacts and referrals essential for bringing projects to life—especially crucial for rural projects like ours, which rely heavily on remote consulting services. For anyone in BC working on a community housing project and wondering whether attending the conference is worth it, take a leap and go! You just can’t know what you don’t know.
