BCCNM is the provincial regulator for all nurses and midwives in British Columbia. Established Sept. 1, 2020.
About us
BCCNM is the provincial regulator for all nurses and midwives in British Columbia. We regulate the four nursing designations--licensed practical nurses (LPN), nurse practitioners (NP), registered nurses (RN) and registered psychiatric nurses (RPN)--as well as registered midwives (RM). Our purpose is to ensure the public receives safe, competent, and ethical nursing and midwifery care. BCCNM was established Sep. 1, 2020, through the amalgamation of the BC College of Nursing Professionals and the College of Midwives of BC. This amalgamation is in line with the Ministry of Health's ongoing efforts to streamline and modernize health profession regulation in B.C. The new college is the first nurse and midwife regulator in Canada, and the largest regulator in Western Canada, overseeing 68,500 registrants.

Receipient of the Premier's Award for Innovation BCCNM is honoured to be part of the team receiving the 2024 Premier's Award for Innovation, Nurses respond to B.C.’s toxic-drug crisis. This project, which resulted in the creation of Certified Practice for Opioid Use Disorder, is the result of extensive collaboration with many partners across the health-care system, including the Ministry of Mental Health & Addictions, Ministry of Health, the BC Centre on Substance Use, the Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of BC, health authorities, nurse leaders and many others. We want to recognize and celebrate the RNs and RPNs working skillfully and compassionately to improve the lives of people living with opioid use disorder, as well as the many others have contributed and continue to contribute to advance this practice. Thank you to everyone who worked to make this a reality. Watch the video: https://lnkd.in/eBKEymPj

Join a BCCNM committee! BCCNM is recruiting members of the public to join their committees. Committees play an important role in BCCNM’s work. If you have an interest in health profession regulation, consider applying today. There are ten committees at BCCNM. Three committees support the governance and oversight work of the board. The other seven are regulatory committees, which have been established under the BCCNM bylaws to support the core programs that deliver on BCCNM's legislated mandate.
