In beef production, genetics play a critical role in management and profitability. To overcome challenges in accessing data to make breeding and feeding decisions, the Canadian Beef Breed Council (CBBC) embarked on an initiative called the Canadian Beef Improvement Network (CBIN), which will help standardize information across breeds. 📖Read or 🎧listen to the latest episode of the Canadian Beef Cattle Podcast to learn more. ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/gerHKuP4

Extended grazing can play a key role in lowering your feed costs and can have positive benefits for the health of your land. However, there are unique challenges, such as environmental conditions, feed lost to wildlife, availability of winter watering sources and increased animal energy requirements that must be managed. Find extended grazing tips from three beef producer case studies from Alberta Agrisystems Living Lab and Canfax. ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/gZ7ta3qs 📸 Terri Mappin

Feed testing tells you what the nutrient levels are in your feed, and according to the recent Canadian Cow-Calf Survey, more beef producers are feed testing. More producers in both Western Canada (68 to 79% vs. 60% in 2017) and Central and Eastern Canada (50 to 54% vs. 25 to 34% in 2017) report having tested their feed at least periodically (though not necessarily every year or multiple times throughout the year). Does your feed pass the test? Download our two-page guide for feed sampling. ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/gcuZsDiQ
