Sustainability through pride of place
About us
borg architect inc. was established in 2021, serving Nunavut, Northwest Territories, and Ontario. Our firm focuses on building relationships and being flexible. We have decided on a green, sustainable environmental practice by reducing our carbon footprint and promoting a better work/life balance. With today's technological tools and transparent communication between all team members, remote working is our strength. We take a "hands-on" approach to all projects throughout their various stages, from design to post-occupancy. Our design approach stems from the idea of "sustainability through pride-of-place." Imposing a design style or solution onto a client is not our intent. The firm's team draws on a rich experience of institutional and residential design work. Client consultation, sustainability and public process are central to the success of our projects. By developing relationships with contractors, consultants, and other experts, we can coordinate these connections to deliver projects with unique systems integration. We believe that the most successful projects embody unique characteristics of client, location, community, and culture. As projects have and will involve various cultural groups, such as the indigenous, we have made it our mandate to approach all aspects of the design and construction with respect and sensitivity. Community consultation in all project phases is key to successful architecture, cultivating a bottom-up design approach.

Pride of place can significantly impact sense of community in several ways When individuals take pride in their community, they feel a sense of ownership and responsibility, leading to increased involvement and care for the community. Pride of place can foster a strong sense of identity and belonging, creating a shared sense of purpose and unity among community members. It also encourages community engagement, volunteerism, and participation in local events and initiatives. Motivating individuals to preserve and improve their community's physical and cultural heritage. Bridging social and cultural divides, promoting social cohesion and will ultimately attract businesses, tourism, and investment, contributing to economic growth and development. Our goal at Borg Architect Inc. is to inspire the preservation and celebration of local traditions, arts, and culture in the communities we design and build in. https://lnkd.in/dwpNf6xe #PrideofPlace #WeBuildCommunity

What does sustainable architecture look like in the Arctic?

We have been asked so many times, why did you spend ten years in the Arctic? Often there is a misconception that the North is barren and void of colour and beauty. Nothing could be further from the truth. See it through our eyes... #ArcticArchitecture #ExtremeEnvironments #SustainableSolutions

At Borg Architecture Inc., we're no strangers to pushing boundaries and innovating in the face of adversity. And when it comes to designing buildings in the Arctic, adversity is exactly what we face. From subzero temperatures to limited access and harsh weather conditions, building in the Arctic presents a unique set of challenges that require creative solutions and a deep understanding of the unique needs of each community we work in. We believe that building in the Arctic requires a deep understanding of the region's unique needs and a commitment to innovation, sustainability and creating pride of place for each community. Join us in pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the Arctic as we begin working on our next project in the Hamlet of Pond Inlet. #WeBuildCommunity #prideofplace #TeenCentre #architecturematters

How amazing were the Northen Lights last night? This is a treat we often get to see while working in the Arctic. We are excited to introduce our intern Madsion to the work we do for clients in the North. Madison joined Borg Architect Inc. in the Spring of 2023, after completing the first year of her Master of Architecture Degree at Carleton University. She has a year left of her program, after which she will become an Intern Architect with the OAA. Throughout the beginning stages of her career, Madison has been responsible for building documentation and analysis, construction documents, interior design, and project coordination. Madison has experience in architecture, heritage consulting, and urban planning. Over the past year, she has gained a wealth of knowledge working with us designing in Canada’s North, while imbuing our work with her own unique perspective and energy. The future of Architecture is truly bright!
