Back in the City of Vancouver! Just in time to attend Creative BC's and IATSE Local 891's Clean Energy Battery Workshop at Bridge Studios. Well attended and perfectly organized, attendees got an overview of the rapidly increasing range, size and application of batteries, as well as how to integrate clean energy usage on set to benefit the motion picture industry. Industry professionals got to see first hand and hear direct experience from genny ops, rigging gaffers and locations managers: – How batteries have replaced diesel generators on their sets. – How to choose the right battery for specific production needs. – The impact of when a battery runs low in comparison to topping up a diesel generator. - So much more! Great products on display from OEMs and equipment suppliers: Valid Manufacturing Ltd., Portable Electric, MBS Equipment Company Canada, Sunbelt Rentals, Inc., Instagrid Thanks for giving everyone an opportunity to broaden their understanding and practical know-how in the pursuit of a greener film industry! Motion picture stakeholders showed up in force for yesterday’s BC NDP Film incentive platform announcement; a commitment to lift our credit from 28% to 36%, and a call to the federal government to distribute vital CMF and telefilm funding out West more equitably. I am humbled and honoured to have been able to speak for industry yesterday, with Premier Eby. We all have worked countless days to get here. It is the ‘We’ I’d like to acknowledge here now. What is not pictured in the press, are the many years of laying ground, together, with all facets of our sector. There has been many years of strategy and action campaigns generated by the Screen BC board. A myriad of supports and letter writing from IATSE 891, ICG 669 Directors Guild of Canada, BC District Council, UBCP / ACTRA, Teamsters Local Union No. 155 leadership and members. The years of work from Creative BC film commission and film commissioner. The collaboration with employers from Canadian Media Producers Association - CMPA and the Motion Picture Association and all associated businesses including studios, equipment and service suppliers, animation—the list is mighty. More to the point is—we all come together to do this work, often behind the scenes to keep our industry voices in the places it is needed most. I may have been the person speaking for us yesterday—but it is all these voices, and the work of all those who came before, and at present, who make progress possible. And—of course, a government that takes meetings, listens to working people, sees our value to British Columbians and the economic benefit our motion picture industry brings. That, my friends— is true #solidarity. On every level.
