In a big move for Calgary’s biotech scene, Bore Da Biotech, a South Korean firm specializing in in-vitro diagnostics, has chosen Calgary as its North American hub. The Trade Accelerator Program – Alberta (TAP), delivered locally by Calgary Economic Development, has helped more than 500 Alberta businesses develop the skills to expand globally since its start in 2020. The U.S. tariff pause offers some temporary stability, but questions remain about what comes next. While this pause is a welcome relief, it’s not a solution — with the threat of tariffs still looming just 30 days out. Predictability is key for investment, jobs and long-term growth. "Nobody wins in this situation right now. Canadian families will be impacted, U.S. families will be impacted,” said Parry.  “While it's positive that we've got a bit of a delay, we've still got to focus on the things that are important for us. Today, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order enacting 25 per cent tariffs on most Canadian goods, and a 10 per cent tariff on Canadian energy. This move will significantly impact Alberta and Canada’s economy. Today, Calgary Economic Development (CED) Board Chair, Joe Lougheed, was named Chair of the Government of Alberta’s new Heritage Fund Opportunities Corp. Also a Director of the Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund (OCIF) board, Joe has decades of experience in governance and advising on strategies to build a strong economic future for Calgary.
