On Tuesday we hosted 60 people at our Wine & Cheese event at the Cambridge LLP Toronto office . Our guest speaker, Dennis Mills, enthralled the audience with the story of how he rose from humble beginnings working in his family business to his election as a Member of Parliament. Dennis also celebrated the launch of his new book "From the Wood Chair to the Green Chair: A Memoir". His main goal, however, was to let everyone know what an honour it is to serve the Canadian people and he challenged everyone to consider a life of public service.

I am delighted and thankful to have been included in a panel discussion that explored fraud and corruption in arbitration (A tainted Arbitration: Allegations of fraud and corruption). I am grateful to my co-panelists, namely Susan Munro, Koh Swee Yen, S.C., Sitpah Selvaratnam and Ajay Bhargava, and to our moderator Denis Brock. Their knowledge and experience was palpable and something to aspire to. Also a big thank you to Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA) and the organizers for putting on a successful conference in Tokyo. I look forward to next year!

It was an historic moment in our country's history as we broke ground on the Thunderhead in Ottawa. This monument to the 2SLGBTQI+ community's struggle for justice is a world first in a national capital. The $13 million cost of building the monument is not a gift from Canada, but is being paid for by the LGBT Purge Fund. The Fund was created as a part of the class action settlement in the case of Ross Roy and Satalic v The Queen. I had the honour of leading the talented legal team in that case, and I serve as a volunteer Director of the Fund. The Fund manages money that represents the damages that would have been paid to victims of the Purge if they had survived to see justice done. For me, it was a very moving moment to help launch this project. I recalled those victims who did not live to see this day, like Captain Joshua Birch of the RCAF and Sergeant Dave Van Norman of the RCMP. In particular, I thought of Ambassador John Watkins who died under RCMP interrogation under the oversight of Prime Minister Lester Pearson. I pointed out to Martine Roy that the Pearson Building, headquarters of Global Affairs was in our direct line of sight. It is a high point in my long career fighting for equality. https://lnkd.in/gT9TTa_V
